Good to see the students are really into the game and loud. I don't know how they come through on the TV, but on the sbu cstv computer feed they are loud.

It's nice to see that the most creative thing the students can come up with is an A-hole chant.

Blow me jeremyD if thats the most creative thing you heard you were not listening Wooaah, calm down, he's not far off. I would rather hear the students just yelling instead of the same three chants every game. I was listening, as I always do, and there was nothing creative about them tonight.

Don't forget "Xavier sucks! Xavier sucks!" I think the creativity left about the time Baron did.

Don't forget "Xavier sucks! Xavier sucks!" I think the creativity left about the time Baron did. Exactly. It is so embarrassing to say stuff like that even when we're losing by that much. I'm not saying they should just not chant, but get clever and creative. I thought Xavier, especially on that one flamboyant dunk, just gave our student section a big F-you tonight and they never responded.

"Shave your arms" was a good one ... but I do agree the bullshits and assholes and so and so sucks is a bit overused but you have to remember that it is hard to get hundreds of students on the same page when they don't have any practice or chants waiting for them when they get to school. the clapping and S B U is a unique cheer that kids know bc it is tradition and it is used in unison by so many bc of that. But other than that, what chants are these kids supposed to be saying if only 50 of them are willing to try and start stuff up. As a freshman, I remember trying all different creative crap that came to my head, but you can only get so many kids to follow because students dont know what the heck your saying. I don't find it embarrassing to say stuff like that bc as students your there to have fun, heckle and hope for a bona win. But also, as a student you shouldn't give a crap what the other team thinks or what opposing fans think.
If a player wants to show the student section up after a dunk, that means the students have won. The team clearly didnt, but the students got so much into the opposing players head that he felt compelled to smile or glance or scream ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Why do the students need to come up with creative chants? That's a Duke thing and one of the main reasons I hate the Blue Devils. Nothing is more homoerotic than a bunch of pre-med virgins wearing flamboyant costumes with their faces painted doing all the stupid chants and doing their gay hand motions while some rich grads in $150 Duke pullovers join in from time to time and talk to their fellow class-of-78 buddy about how "crazy and unique" Cameron Indoor is. To borrow a phrase from bonabacker95 in this thread "blow me."

I guess I'm spoiled, but I think the student section was incredibly weak last night. No energy from the get-go considering the magnitude of the game.

Sounded more like an OOC game from years ago. And as far as being creative with chants, come up with something that gets under the opposing teams skin. I've heard Hooked on Phonics chanted to GW on numerous occasions based on their subject recruiting stars from less than exceptional prep schools. Calling Lappas "Oompa, Loompa" and chanting that is creative.
All you really have to do is get a group of 10 or 15 on board and it will eventually spread. Another good reason to get there a little early.

To borrow a phrase from bonabacker95 in this thread "blow me." Because it's embarrassing and juvenile to chant expletives and spend most of their energy challenging the officials and opposing players with calls like "F*** You 52! You suck!" It reflects poorly not only on the crowd as a whole but also the education you claim to be receiving at the University. I witnessed a so called "fan" (with a dip the size of an orange in his lip) launch a 30 second four letter word soliloquy on an X player last night as a 4 year old girl stood behind him. When his buddy motioned to him the girl was there, he replied "who gives a f***!" This is the kind of support and attitudes we want to portray to the public, prospective students, or possible recruits and their families?!?

Portpasses struck the nail on the head. Chants that are vulgar show no class or ingenuity, and are a very poor reflection on the student body and the school. If I were there with my high school child comtemplating attending Bonas, and nothing but expletives were being spewed from the student section, that would certainly taint my view of things. For the record, back in the day, we weren't saints at the games, but we did have Fr. Gerald to rein us in.
Take an ad out in the BV, announcing that each Monday night at Hickey you're going to practice some new chants for the upcoming games. It shouldn't be that difficult...you're only talking about a few hundred students.
