Tough game. It was the first I've seen, thanks to Channelsurfing.net, and I had to watch it in conjunction with gametracker to keep track of the score. We obviously do not have the horses or athletes that X does at this point.
Some things were very clear, as I have read in the past but could not see, we had little movement on offense. Often we had one guy who had the ball, zero movement, and so the dribbler would take the ball in, take an ill advised shot, make a bad pass, or get stuck amidst 3 defenders. You see X go to the other end and there was a lot of movement creating space and therefore, better shots. I think we would reduce our turnovers if we had more movement on offense and therefore created more space. I counted at least 5 turnovers that were passes to a man that was completely covered, so the ball was taken. Like throwing up a jump ball pass in football, hoping your guy comes down with it. We are also a little slow footed, offensively and defensively.
This team will be better next year and will continue to improve as we get more bodies. Nicholson and Davenport will be a great tandem for four years and I would expect a big impact from Davenport next year. I was hoping we would get more from Cook this year, but he looks very tentative. On to Dayton. It doesn't get any easier...
