I will attend the game at Kinston, RI. I will be coming through Boston and onto I-95 South. The last time I took I-95 though Providence was in early December and there was a lot of construction. It was a mess and the Providence exits were tricky. Anybody know if the construction has been cleared up? I have to get to Rte 4 and onto US-1. It will be the first time I've been able to see the Bonnies since last year at UMass.

Unfortunately there is still construction in that area. If possible I would try to get through that area before 4 o'clock and maybe grab dinner before the game. That area is pretty much chaos from 5-6. Safe travels.

why not take I-95 to exit 3 (Kingston) and backtrack. Follow the signs to URI. Much easier.

Maple - avoid Providence by using I-295. You pick this up on one of the last exits on 95 in MA. 295 bypasses Providence and puts you right back on 95 in Warwick, RI, just south of the airport. Once back on 95, you only have two exits for the left hand exit onto RI Route 4 South. Take 4 South until it ends and dumps you onto Rte. 1 South. You only have a short couple miles or so on Rte. 1 until the right hand turn at the light onto 138 West towards campus. Maybe 5 to 7 minutes to campus from there.
I'll be there with a few other Bona fans to make some noise for our squad.
Safe travels.

I normally suggest that people take Route 295 to avoid Providence during rush hour. It is a little longer mileage wise but you are typically assured of less traffic issues. Route 295 is basically a bypass around Providence that starts at Route 95 Southbound at Exit 4 in Attleboro and later rejoins/ends at Route 95 south in Warwick. If you are looking for food and or drink near the Ryan Center, there are not many options. Most Rhody fans visit the restaurants in the nearby village of Wakefield south of campus (Route 108 south from Route 138). Popular places before and after games are the Mews (69 beers on tap) or Casey's Grill and bar. www.mewstavern.com/www.caseysgrill.com/

I think 295 bypass is a good idea, although my neighbor suggested taking 24 south to Newport and then taking the bridge over Naragansett Bay. He said it would deposit me at the Holiday Inn at 138 and US-1. I plan to eat at the 108 House in Wakefield, now called Casey's. That restaurant has the best charcoal broiled fish on the east coast (at least it did some ago). After the game I plan to go to the road house at the corner of 138 and US-1. Jim Baron and the rest of the Bonnie coaching staff used to imbibe there after URI games when the team stayed at the Holiday Inn.

It sounds like your last visit may have been several years ago and things have changed. The 108 House (located on Route 108) is no longer in operation. It is now a Chelos family style restaurant. Casey's is in the same location right off Route 1 that it has always been at. The roadhouse type restaurant at the intersection of routes 1 and 138 next to the Holiday Inn is no longer there as it burned down. It has been replaced by a small retail center. There is still a restaurant at the Holiday Inn. I am however not so sure that all teams still stay at that Holiday Inn. There is a newer Hampton Inn hotel just south of there also on Route 1 at South County Commons (sort of a fake contrived village like Mashpee Commons on the Cape) with an Applebees in close proximity. You can take the scenic path via Routes 24 and 138 over the bridges. There is a $2 toll both ways at the Newport Bridge. Route 138 eventually reconnects with Route 1 just north of the Holiday Inn where it later go off to the west. I sometimes make the drive to Kingston from my workplace in Canton, MA (right between routes 95 and 24) and I would think route 95 is the better option.

rf1 - I agree that 95 is the better option than 24.
I'll be at Casey's pre-game.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I used to go to the URI game when I lived on Long Island. Those were the days of the Keaney Gym. Boy was it hard to get tickets in the days of Tyson Wheeler and Antonio Reynolds-Dean. I was always greatly outnumbered, but the Rhody fans always treated me well. They always asked, where is St. Bonaventure? Once, the SBU Alumni had a post game celebration at the URI Faculty Club after the game. The best game was the one where Lamar Odom tried to dunk and hit the back rim so hard that the ball almost hit Keaney's roof. J. R. Bremer caught the ball at half court and bumped into a Rhody player who got a blocking foul-and Harrick got a technical. Bremer made 6 straight foul shots to win that game and break a long Rhody winning streak at Keaney. So thanks again to everyone. I think the game is going to be close. And whatever route I take, I'll be there.

Me and a couple other Bona grads will be making the trip from the Bean, departing Boston around 4, looking to grab a cocktail in Providence along the way. 74-69 Bonas.
