Jimmy Baron strained his lower right back and hip in yesterday's loss to Temple. The injury occurred in the early stages of the game and he did return and scored, I think, 13 points. But the account of the game in the Providence Journal said that it was obvious he was playing in pain. I'll check for any updates tomorrow and Wednesday and post with any significant info I find.
Another starter for the Rams, Keith Cothran, had missed about the past 6 games with a knee injury. The Temple game was his first game back. He played well, but is certainly not in the game shape he was in prior to being hurt.

Thanks OceanStateBonnie. Baron playing at less than 100% would help our cause against URI’s 9-1 record at home. Jimmy has made the most treys in the A10 at a .414 rate. Earlier this year his 8 treys against Duke set the record for most treys made by a visiting player at Cameron. URI shoots very well (#2 A10 FG% .463) & Jimmy is a big reason. A back injury can be unpredictable. Getting accurate information on injuries is very difficult. Good luck.

Nothing in today's paper and I didn't expect anything. Wednesday's paper will have a thorough game preview. That will at least provide some update on Jimmy's condition.

My son and I were at the Rhody-Temple game, Sunday afternoon. The weather was great as it hit a sunny high of 62 degrees! Rhody let Temple gather many offensive rebounds while the Rams turned the ball over constantly by either a double-dribble violation or by palming the ball. LaVoy Allen did the most damage for Temple by scoring over 20 points and getting the Windex award as he cleaned the glass often. Early in the game, Baron was taken out and attended to by the trainer. Jimmy sat on the bench quite a while before returning and then grimaced as he shot or when going for a rebound. That kid has a lot of heart as he continued to play through pain. The officials knew Baron was playing in pain as they patted him on the back several times. Rhody was trailing most the game by sizeable margins then closed to within 5 with about a minute to go. That would be as close as they would get. Temple is a very tough team to beat on North Broad Street. I don't remember Bonas ever winning down here against Temple. I would have loved to see Baron still coaching the Brown Indians with his son playing, Damian Hollis would have followed them here, and Essie Hollis would have been at Bona helping Jimmy Baron coach their kids. Like him or not, Baron had Bonas going in the right direction when he was here. Who knows where they would be if they had retained Baron as coach. Good luck the rest of the way to our Brown Indians. I really look forward to seeing Bonas play in Atlantic City and to see all those loyal Bandwagon people who will make the pilgrimage to the shore...

The Providence Journal SBU game capsule by URI beat writer Paul Kenyon for Wednesday night's game has been posted online. It has a blurb about Jimmy Baron: Baron's status is to be determined tonight at practice. He suffered a strained muscle in his back during the Temple game. He played through pain in that game and might have to do the same for the foreseeable future. www.projo.com/uri/content/projo-20090110-uri-st-bonaventure.1a56cd4.html

Nobody ever remembers Bonas beating Temple in Philadelphia because it's never happened.
