Surprising that Louisville has never been number 1...

Very interesting post. I wish everyone out there could have seen Tom Stith play. He played most games with three guys trying hanging on him. When Bona beat Providence in triple overtime at the Armory in 1961 to win their 88th straight at home, to me was the greatest win. At least in the top 3 games of all time.

presstowin,
I've attended hundreds of colllege games, including almost 70 NCAA tourney games, and that was the best game of all. T. Stith had 48 or 49 and Lenny Wilkins had 48 or 49.
One minor correction - game was played 2/9/60.

I guess Temple has never been ranked??? Maybe I don't understand your point, but Temple is on the list at number 50.

Anyone else notice Robert Morris get a vote this week??? WTF??? Tells me Schmidt left a solid young team. 4 of the top 6 scorers are Schmidt's recruits. Along with the team's star player Jeremy Chappell, who is averaging 16.7 ppg. Robert Morris coach Mike Rice is winning with Schmidt's recruits and 2 of his own JUCO players.

I think Mike Bossy's point was that Robert Morris deserves to be no where near the top 25 at this point. The Colonials are 17-8 and may be 11-1 in conference, but own losses to Marist and St. Francis (NY). Ouch. Plus the NEC is one of the worst conferences (bottom five) in college basketball. The vote was misguided although it is obvious Mark left a good deal of talent there.

The A-10 has only one team in the top 25 and only one other gets votes, but someone out there thought RMU deserved a top 25 vote???

It was John Feinstein that voted for Robert Morris. He switches his 25th place vote in the poll around among the lower conferences each week to give one of them a little bit of recognition whether they are truly deserving of a vote or not.

AOX,
Where can we find the list of voters?
If true about Feinstein he should stick to writing golf books.

I disagree, az63. Feinstein is one of the few national sportswriters or commentators who give any respect to teams from outside the "big 6" conferences. Given that he's a Duke grad, that's saying something. And it's only the 25th position he does this with -- he plays it straight with 1 through 24.
BTW, his basketball books are well worth the read as is his Army-Navy book.
