As we know, Calvin is just one of many guards we have been looking at. He was just named to the PA State AAA First Team.

He sounds a lot like eleby and played against the same competition. I think we should go a different route

He sounds a lot like eleby and played against the same competition. I think we should go a different route Aside from being from Philadelphia, I'm not sure how Newell and Eleby have anything in common. They have pretty different games, really. Eleby is a 6'3" point guard whose game is best suited going to the bucket in transition. His size and strength advantage can really hurt certain guards. Newell, on the other hand, is a pure scorer. He's only 6'0", but plays the point and off guard spots. Most importantly, Newell can fill it up from the perimeter and get to the rim. Defensively, he lacks some gusto, but that can be learned at the next level.

He sounds a lot like eleby and played against the same competition. I think we should go a different route I heard he once ate at Burger King, and so did Lacey Fulmer. So that means he can't make free throws. That's some sound deductive reasoning coach.

I'm sure the Celtics are glad they used the reasoning: "Well Eric Montross played at the same college as Michael Jordan, so he'll be good, let's take him."

Alright, lets go get another combo guard that turns the ball over. I guess we don't need a true point guard

Since when are we to good to go a different route from a player of any position who scores 29 ppg in a AAA class Philadelphia high school?

eleby scored 29 in high school. Let's not get too excited No he did not. Malcolm Eleby averaged 21 points per game in his senior season at Franklin Learning Center--a school which has produced multiple D-1 players including Eleby and Siena signee Denzel Yard. Calvin Newell took his team (inferior top to bottom when compared to FLC) deeper into the AAA playoffs while averaging 29 points per game. Their games really aren't similar at all. No comparison whatsoever.

I remember when Niagara signed Tyrone Lewis and the critics said that he was too small, no position, scored a lot but played against weak competition, etc. Lewis is a very exciting player and just finds a way to be successful. I believe that Calvin Newell is this type of player. He is of high character and determined. He's got heart. I'd love to see him at Bona.
