The same names bouncing around: Johnson, Chandler, Newell, Murphy, Lytch,Okoloji. Scroll around the board a bit for background. If anybody's got any more info, they're sitting on it for now.
You hear anything tirish ?

The only new named i have heard is Julius Brooks. He is a 6'9 215lb PF. He is still alittle raw, but seems to sound a lot like Hakeem Warrik coming out of high school. He isnt as talented as Warrik scoring wise, but the way they describe him it sounds like he is very athletic.
Evaluation June, 2008: Brooks' athleticism and ability to run the floor gives him a clear advantage over 99% of other big men. He runs like a deer, plays above the rim with ease, and is very quick off his feet. He has very good footwork on the low block as well as a good understanding of passing/high-low angles. As soon as he learns to get a little bigger in his upper body when attempting to establish position, it will be very difficult for defenders to prevent him from getting touches. He must also work to develop softer hands as well as establish a signature move with his back to the basket. However, he has a fairly soft touch inside of 12 feet. Defensively, his size and leaping ability makes him a valuable shot blocker in a variety of situations. Overall, his physical gifts and hard-working approach to the game give him a very high upside, although he is still fairly raw at the moment.

Thanks tirish. Brooks is a new name for me. The little info I've found confirms what you say - very athletic 6'9" kid, runs well and can jump. Seems to have a lot of potential. How the heck do we get that kid out of North Carolina ?

What kind of vehicles do the coaching staff drive? Would one of them drive thier own SUV on a recruiting trip several states away? Can they even be visiting now?

I dont know all the rules but here is the best I could find:
Recruiting Calendar The Official 2008-09 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Recruiting Calendar By Charlie Zegers, About.com See More About:basketball recruitingquiet perioddead periodsigning datesIt can be difficult to decipher the NCAA guidelines for recruiting without degrees in law, astrophysics and phrenology -- but here's a head start: the official calendar that dictates when recruits can and cannot be contacted by coaches or other official team representatives. Please note: In NCAA-speak, a "contact" is anything beyond "hello."
As a general rule, the NCAA sets aside a formal contact period in the late summer/early fall, another in March and another in April. Teams and coaches are limited to 130 person/days of recruiting during the academic year, and get two additional evaluation periods during the summer.
Spans where recruiting is limited to campus visits -- quiet periods -- or shut down almost completely -- dead periods -- are sprinkled liberally throughout the year.
Here are the official dates for the 2008-09 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball recruiting calendar.

Also, I would love to know if we are going after any centers. I know Andrew is great, but we all know his foul problems and most of them happen do to the lack of size and strength. I would love another big underneath to complament Andrew. We need another rebounder. Especially since Xavier will have Frease for the next 4 years and La Salle signed Aaric Murray a 6'10 265 center that is rated as the number 8 best center in the country and 40th best player in all of the country by espn. You can not just recruit to get the team you want, you also have to recruit for match ups coming up in the following years.

tirish - I believe the plan is for Jake to back up Andrew. I am told by other contributers to this board that Jake is making good progress. (maybe a little help from Cook, too ?) I agree that we are awful 'skinney' at center, but I think our need for another point guard and 4 are more pressing. Malcolm pulled it together nicely for the second half of the season and I think he is a good teammate and will continue to improve, but we can't go with just one point guard. (this is all assuming rumors about Ray and Greese are true) I also think it may be tricky to recruit a good center - they may worry about playing time behind Andrew, although as you noted, fouls kept Andrew off the court alot last year. I think we may miss D'Lancy's large, steady presence more than some expect.
Thanks for the information.

As time goes by a few more names get added to the mix which is common place during recruiting. If we do not get a big(center), Jake would likely be Andrew's backup. As for Cook, he is staying(as of now)but will see limited action if any at all. This team is getting better and with recruits like Conger and Simmons he will be a practice player at best. He is a great kid but lacks the ability to play at the level needed to get time from coach. Talked with a few people who were at the post season banquet and they said that Mo and Blackburn were not in attendance!

SG 17 Taran Buie (Bishop Maginn HS) Albany, NY 6-0/170 04/03/2009 Penn State Did Buie sign with Penn State or just a verbal. That would be a great get for the PSU since I know schools like Maryland and other ACC schools wanted him. I watched him play last year. He reminds me a little of a Delonte West type player.

Now if we need a pg, a true ball handler/pass first guy; why doesnt coach try to get a kid out of NYC. Watching Big East basketball and other conferences play, you always see pgs from NYC. I know it might be hard to recruit from this area to Bonas, but its a hot bed for pgs and an area that coach should look into more. Even if he has to cross the bridge and get in NJ. Especially now that the A-10 tourney is in A.C., who wouldn't want to a tourney game or championship game infront of people they know.
Look at some of the guys that aren't signed yet: Malik Stith | PG
Hometown Long Island City, NY High School Bridgton Academy (ME) Height 5'10" Weight 170 lbs. Last Updated: 4/2/2009 Data provided by Scouts, Inc. Evaluation / Notes On the Trail / Features Status Undeclared
Scouts Grade 87
Considering:
Evaluation February, 2009: Stith has good, but not elite lateral quickness with the rock in his hands, but he does an incredible job of getting almost anywhere he wants on the floor with the dribble. He also has nice-sized hands despite his small stature, which helps him to handle the ball very well. He gets to the lane and finishes at the rim with contact, due to his good amount of strength and good body control. Stith will connect from 3-point range, but he needs to become more consistent in this area. Stith also has the pull-up jumper in the mid-range area of the floor and can get the shot off of one or two dribbles. Stith plays well in the open court and has the vision and passing skills to find open teammates streaking to the rim for lay-ups. He does a great job of leading his team through example and maintains poise, a good trait for a point guard. Stith also plays a tough, intense style of basketball without changing expressions throughout games. He really understand how to run a team which will help him immensely as a point guard on the next level.
Antoine Brown | PG
Hometown Brooklyn, NY High School Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School Position rank Point Guard # 82 Height 6'1" Last Updated: 4/2/2009 Data provided by Scouts, Inc. Evaluation / Notes On the Trail / Features Status Undeclared
Scouts Grade 83
Considering: No schools at this time. Evaluation February, 2009: Brown has very good quickness and uses his speed to get to the rim with relative ease. Once in the paint, Brown, a lefty, can use his right hand to finish at the rim or with the little floater in the lane. He also has good body control and can adjust his body in the air to get shots off that opposing bigs attempt to block. He also breaks down defenders and looks for open teammates in the paint on drop-off passes or kick-outs to open shooters on the perimeter. Brown can stick jumpers with range out to the 3-point line, but needs more consistency in this area. He will also benefit from adding a mid-range pull jumper to his offensive arsenal. Brown does a good job of moving his feet and pressures the ball on the perimeter very well.
Umar Shannon | PG
Hometown Atlantic City , NJ High School Atlantic City High School Position rank Point Guard # 40 Height 6'1" Weight 175 lbs. Last Updated: 4/2/2009 Data provided by Scouts, Inc. Evaluation / Notes On the Trail / Features Status Signed
Scouts Grade 87
Considering: No schools at this time. Evaluation March, 2009: Shannon has the ball-handling skills that coaches covet in lead guards. He does a very good job of creating offense off the dribble and with his very good quickness, he can get to the cup with relative ease. His quickness allows him to mesh perfectly with an up-tempo, fast-breaking attack. Shannon also shoots it very well from 3-point range as well as make use of a very effective mid-range, pull-up jump shot. His shooting ability allows Shannon to play off the ball at times as a scoring guard and this versatility will greatly benefit him on the next level. He passes the ball very well and will involve his teammates on offense. Shannon's lateral quickness allows him to defend very well, placing good pressure on the ball. He has a very high basketball I.Q. and leads his team by example.
