Ouch...Greese is going to be missed. I wish he could have gotten his head on straight.

Well, that stinks, but guess it was inevitable. Even further increases our need for a PG as well.
IN SCHMIDT WE TRUST!

Exactly how close does Blackburn need to be to his family?

Every year it is the same shit. We can never keep a core together. Now we really need a big man that can come in and play right away. I don't feel comfortable with Nicholson, Cook and Jake being our only bigs.

This is a different case than years past though. Schmidt decided that Greese and Blackburn were not a part of the program's plans moving forward. The players did not choose to leave on their own. Continuity is something this program needs but not at the expense of team chemistry etc.
Sure, it hurts us somewhat short term, but Schmidt sending a message that you are on board with him and the way he operates or you'll be shown the door is an important precedent to set. Im willing to bet Schmidt has some players on the radar to cover these losses. Long term, this could be a blessing. Only time will tell.
On a personal note, it sucks that Greese put himself in this position. He worked his a** off on the court come gametime and quickly became a Bonnie favorite of mine(and others im sure). Seemed like a good kid who just couldnt get it together upstairs, certainly his talent will be missed. Goodluck to Greese.

Exactly how close does Blackburn need to be to his family? I'm pretty sure Blackburn has at least one kid, so I assume the move back to Buffalo would make it easier on him to take care of his kid rather than being an hour and a half away from him.

At least we now have the scholarships available to go after more than 1 solid 4 year recruit. Would definitely like to see a pg, big body rebounder, and a defense first type guard.

I don't feel comfortable with Nicholson, Cook and Jake being our only bigs. It is not the same. In the past it was the players, who wanted to leave the Bonnies. This time it is Schmidt not welcoming the players back. Do not believe Solomon would ever let a talented big man like Greese go, but as mh05 stated Schmidt is sending a message that he expects more than just performance on the court. It is the right decision for the long term of this program.

Do not believe for a minute that the coach does not already have replacements identified and ready to commit. First, we were hurt by our guard play and Blackburn was not seen as the answer and Thomas got himself in trouble when we needed him most, like the A10 tournament. I believe he should go after a quick PG who can penetrate and play D, should go after a PF and a center. Simmons, Hall and Matthews are good enough ball handlers to serve as PF's in the pinch. This announcement was made to create openings for ships that are needed to get the new players to come aboard. The only concern is that next year will be the second year in a row that we will have 7 new players on the team.

Simmons is a good ball handler? Could be, but I've never seen him play a college game against college-aged men.

Correct me if"m wrong but isn't there a scholorship penelty if your program doesn't graduate a certain percent of its players? We've had about 500 payers quit since the scandal. Won't this start to affect of our program eventually?

WOW Q, do you think the staff doesn't know what they are doing? Glad there's posters like you.

Grad rates is a legitimate question. Yes, I too am sure the staff knows what they are doing, but too many have left SBU recently with the tag "not in good academic standing", and the penalties for APR (or whatever the acronym is) are supposed to start kicking in this year, aren't they ?
We are not in very good standing when it comes to graduation rates, and the 'grace period' foor the scandal must be over by now.
