Yes, I have a question.
Why is K-Rod such a D-Bag?

Another great article from Ian. Keep the articles coming Ian, as it provides some interesting reading during the slow summer months. Ian has some solid opinions, which are supported with evidence. Here are Ian's 5 questions from the article. Highly recommend you reading his article for his responses. Question #1: Is Malcolm Eleby the starting point guard this year, and what does the future hold for him as a Bonnie? Ian supports Malcolm with "Malcolm really showed some growth towards the end of the year, finishing in double figures in 7 of the team’s last 9 contests." The problem with this stat is the Bonnies won only 2 of those games in which Malcolm scored double digits. Results of the 2 games Malcolm did not score double digits? Bonnies won both games. Malcolm slowing the game down and looking to score is not what the Bonnies need. Probably in the minority, but I believe Ogo will be the starter for the extreme majority of the games this season. Question #2: What does the loss of Maurice Thomas mean to Andrew Nicholson, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year? It depends on the offense. The loss of Greese will be significant if the offense is slower with the team running a lot of half court sets. Bonnies lack consistent outside shooting and another scorer in the paint, which Greese provided. In a half court offense teams will pack it in on Andrew. The lack of shooters and lack of another interior scorer will be less of a factor in a fast pace offense, which does not give a defense time to match up. This is the reason why JVBK was able to lead the Bonnies to the NIT with 6'6" Robert Cheeks at center. For this reason, I see Ogo taking over at point guard sooner than later. Question #3: What is the team’s greatest weakness heading into the 2009-2010 season? Like last year, the biggest weakness is going to be outside shooting. Chris Matthews was the only shooter on the team, but he also had the second worst shooting percentage on the team barely beating out DaQuan Cook (35% to 34%). Of the newcomers, Ogo is being touted as having the best outside shot while Lewis is described as a scorer and not a shooter. Question #4: What is the team’s greatest strength heading into the 2009-2010 season? Without a doubt, it is the team's athleticism. Last year the Bonnies had an athletic team. This year the Bonnies lose their 3 least athletic players (Greese, Carter and Benson) and replace them with more athletes. Expect this team to be the fast pace team we've been anxiously waiting for since Schmidt's hiring. Question #5: What Bonnies player is most vital to the team’s success? It takes a jet quick point guard to run a fast pace offense. Schmidt finally has this PG with Ogo. Another critical position is the 4. House, Simmons or Cook has to develop into a starter. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36175

Very interesting analysis and predictions. Here is my take:
#1- On the same page with Malcolm starting but with Ogo getting bulk of PG mins 8 games into season. That said, Malcolm could really surprise me if he shows as much improvement as he did from his frosh season. Dramatic improvement shown in A/TO ratio from .76 to 1.14. 2.8ppg to 7ppg., 1.7TOs to 2.2TOs in spite of doubling his mins played. I seriously question his ability to create and push the ball BUT he did have some flashes against good teams where he displayed impressive A/TO ratios: Temple 6/1, UMass 7/1 & X 5/1. The PG position is the most intricate to master. He’s learning & if he can continue that curve to approach a 2.0 ratio this coming season I will be very pleasantly surprised.
#2- Loss of Thomas is huge & I would not expect Coach to say anything other than what he has said publicly on the matter. Simmons, House & Cook have a huge challenge ahead of them.
#3- Clearly, we had a glaring weakness in PG play, trey shooting & now the “4.” Tough to say which facet of our game is the most hurtful. Being at the bottom in most TOs & treys was devastating. Now add a question mark at the “4.” PG play makes it all happen.
#4- Our greatest strength is “The Professor.” But Malcolm & Ogo MUST be capable of getting him the ball in the paint when he gets into position to receive the rock. With an added 15 pounds & more muscle he should be able to extend the window of opportunity to get the ball & go to the rim.
#5- Singling out the most vital ingredient to our success, in light of our cited deficiencies, is tough. I’d say that the level of success of Ogo &/or Malcolm will be the biggest factor in improving on 15 Ws.
