In Elmira this weekend ( Southside High Schools Class of '79 reunion for da Wife ) and talked with a few people about the Bonnies. Names that came up were Tom Whalen and Billy Kalbaugh. Sounds as if they put in a good word for us when ever they can. So a BIG thank you goes out to them! Sunday we went to the Ukrainian Festival and the Periogyi and Golumki were absolutly the BEST. Bought two dozen of both and they were all gone by lunch Monday. THEY BEST...
Also, on schduling new games how about a tournement with The Orangemen, Penn St, Binghamton and SBU played at the arena in Elmira. I think it would be very successful. Then for the next three years bring in teams like the Johnnies, Villanova, Albany, Rutgers and other East Coast Colleges.
I love Olean and the Bonnies and Beef on Wik!
Cant wait for the season to start

C'mon, playing in Elmira would do absolutely nothing for us.

Why would the Bonnies want to play in Elmira? What would they gain by it? Why take a game away from the RC? It is bad enough the Bonnies have already scheduled one "home" game in Rochester for the upcoming year. Lets bring in Penn State, St. John's, Syracuse to our house. That will bring the crowd in, help the local economy and put Olean on the map. Hey, I would even pay higher ticket prices for "big-time" college teams.
Hey Dude, don't forget to use spell check. Obviously, you aren't a Bona grad!

G-boy.....Spellcheck; schmellcheck.....you have a semi valid point to make and then any hint of intelligence in your post disappears with your spell check reference.

Actually, G-boy's post has no hint of intelligence in it. Don't you think the Bonnies would get those teams to come to "our house" if they could. They can't even get a home game with one of the worst teams in the Big East (St. John's). Neutral sites are the only way for the Bonnies to play big teams close to home. SoCal has decent idea, albeit far fetched.

Then why schedule any home games? Lets play all our "home" games at "neutral" sites. There are three main reasons why we can't get big-time names to SBU - money, playing at the vaunted RC and its scenic beauty, ie., location. I find the location reason hard to believe. I have traveled to many areas of the country. Bonas is no more difficult to get to than many other colleges and universities.
Once again I say, lets pay higher ticket prices for better schools. In sports management they call that "tiered ticket pricing."

Gosh Goldenboy your smart. Obviously, I'm NOT a Bona grad Dude!
Playing a Elmira was brought up to me by a Coach who is very very active in Coaches for Cancer. Their reason was based on location and because it would reduce expenses for teams, shorten travel time, fan base is close for all teams and the Arena would be an easy sellout for the games. Dont shoot me I'm only the messenger.
Coach, playing a game in Elmira would seem to me closer than Rustchester and of course playing all home games in the RC would be ideal. One big problem for the Bonnies is their nack for beating big schools when they come to the friendly confines of the Rielly Center. If this program can get its feet back on the ground then, I think, in a few seasons out teams will once again knock on SBU's door for games.
IF YOU WIN THEY WILL COME !!!

Season ticket apps come out soon, don't they ? Shouldn't the schedule be out before the apps ? I've heard we only have 4 non-con games at the RC this season, and only 12 overall - sure would be nice to see a potential schedule/list of home oppenents before I decide to buy 4 tix for me, the wif, and the kids.
We always have 8 A-10 home games - right ? Does that mean we only have 12 games at the Rc this season, and 16 on the road ?
That's not a good ratio.

G-boy, it's plain and simple. If you want to play Cuse or St. Johns or Penn state you got play there or at a neutral site. That's just the way it is. Don't you think the school has tried to get Cuse into the RC? Yes. But there's no way in hell Cuse is coming. That's just the way it is. Schools like St. Bonaventure can't play top-notch programs in their gyms.

Hey, this really is a good thread by the kid. Just a few more comments about this topic. SBU, RC and the Olean area first for any home games. Lets improve our local economy rather than Elmira or Rochester. Next, the kid is right in one regard, if you win than people and teams will come to the RC.
With that said I believe the Schmidt has the Bonnies heading in the right direction. If teams aren't willing to travel to the "Heart of the Enchanted Mountains" than don't play them. I have no problem with us traveling all over the country but at the same time lets open up the rest of the country to our part of the "woods."

G-boy - wish you were right, but the exact opposite is true. WHEN we show we can win, not only will the top teams still not come to the RC, they won't bring us into their place either. The bigs are committed to a scheduling pattern of playing a couple of other bigs, usually in some tourney that'll be on TV, and filling the rest of their OOC with cupcakes. Adding a team that can come in and beat them- as we did with UConn and Pitt a few years back, gives them nothing. Their games are already sell-outs, and their RPI will be competitive with the others who are doing the same thing. They just want the W. There are always a few exceptions, but mostly based on relationships with former assistants who are now head coaches, etc. Maybe we can come up with some big-conf second level teams - Miss. St for example - but even that was by chance. It's a tough nut to crack.
