Anyone have any information how the enrollment numbers are for the University this year. I know it has been tough for many private colleges this year. Bona's has made such progress in the last few years, I am hoping they can weather this rough economy.

The current economy has hit many private schools hard and Bona is among them. As a SHARE BONA volunteer I was provided these numbers a couple of weeks ago. As of July 15th there were 472 confirmed (deposits received) incoming students. In addition there were 57 confirmed transfers with this number expected to rise slightly as it does each summer. This year, there was a greater number of students who wanted Bona as there #1 school but selected SUNY schools because of the cost advantages. The lower # of admissions will put a strain on finances. More reason than ever for alums to assist with the SHARE BONA program to assist the Admissions Office for next year. This past February, 113 SHARE volunteers wrote personal letters to 1,230 accepted Bona students to point out the merits of a Bona education. On the upside, the number of applications increased and the academic quality of the prospective class is stronger than last year (which was the strongest class in 5 years). Applicants had a high school grade point average of 87 and SAT scores of 529 verbal + 542 math (1071 total).

wgt, thanks for the info. Sounds like Bonas is actually doing better than a lot of smaller private schools. I agree that the school needs the help of alums. But also other supporters (like parents of recent alums) who really pull for the school and are willing to help it maintain its progress. A check to the school as a supporter is certainly a lot less than what I used to send up for tuition and room and board.

Our stats aren't bad with the average grade point being at 87 and with those sat scores why are we still listed as less competitive in Barons College Guide? I mean shouldn't we be at least competitive?

WGT - acouple of years ago, I inquired about helping with admissions, possibly speaking on behalf of the university etc. and never heard from anyone. Of course that could be saying something about their standards given my academic career!!

sony, You would be an excellent & passionate representative for the SHARE Bona program which reaches out to perspective students by: Attending college Fairs representing Bona, Writing letters to accepted students, Speaking with parents & students at arranged events in your area etc.. If interested, please go to this web site (copy & paste) to sign up for the program & to indicate how you might help admissions. This is critical to a prosperous Bona. www.sbu.edu/alumniAndFriendsForms.aspx?ekfrm=11108

Welcome to the team sony. You are a great addition. nonaman2013...I do know that the "Bona comes to you" program always has a student speaking to the parents & accepted HS students. Check with admissions to see how you can assist. Needless to say, Admissions will face an added challenge this coming year due to the economy.
