Wow, just under 6,000 for the Bona - West Virginia game. That is under seating capacity for the RC. If Bonas would have played the game at SBU it would have sold out - 6,000 people! With the Rockin the Reilly Center atmosphere we could have turned that loss into a win!
Teams don't want to come to the RC because of its awesome "home field" crowd and they will loose. I thought the name of the game was to win. Why do you want to play games on a neutral court and lessen your chances of winning?

Because that is where the bigger teams are willing to play us. If we could get BCS teams to the RC, we surely would be doing it. We gotta take these games, wherever they may be, when opportunities present themselves.

As has been often mentioned on this board one way to rebuild is to do it the Temple way, play anyone, anywhere at anytime. You can get national exposure (and your butt kicked) but also increase/improve the reputation of the program. This strategy has risks and great rewards as well.

If Bonas would have played the game at SBU it would have sold out - 6,000 people! With the Rockin the Reilly Center atmosphere we could have turned that loss into a win! For some reason I doubt this. In '05-'06 we didn't even break 5,000 when a top 10 team (G.W.) came to visit the RC in the season's final home game. Coming off of one of the worst seasons in school history ('04-'05), I think we would have struggled to sell out the RC that year no matter who we brought in. Hell, last year we didn't even sell out when we hosted one of the top SEC teams. Hopefully times are changing now and our better product on the floor results in better attendance, but I sincerely doubt that moving that game to the R.C. would have fared much better than in Rochester.

My argument would be that St. Johns no longer deserves to be considered that type of team, this isn't the 80's. Also weren't they playoing a home and home with Niagara in their little fieldhouse? No, I'm glad to be playing them, but it should be at the Reilly. .

Stop with the lost home game crap. I went to the Miss. State game from Rochester and was shocked at how many seats is the red were empty. So if you are not a student please stop. I will say to all STOP calling St. John's a big name school. They would not even finish in the top half of the A-10 right now. I will say that if they are going to be planning games in Rochester and Buffalo they need to do it when students are on break not when they are on campus. Also, when they schedule these games they need to do it on the weekend so the fans from Olean and Buffalo could make the trip not during the week. That is stupid to me.

I took the halfcourt shot for $10,000 at the Bona's-WVU game. Although the crowd was smallish it seemed like 100,000 to me at that time.
Safe to say I missed...

Half Court for 10k? How'd you do? Hit the rim? Airball? How were our cheerleaders that year?

hit the backboard and then the side of the rim. Not a terrible effort. It didnt help that I had a bunch of friends in the student section behind the basket yelling things that I will not share on this board.
I was there from 03-07 and I always remember our cheerleaders being pretty solid. now that dance team.....

Good, solid effort, bro. I remember back in the late 80s or early 90s hearing about a kid who buried a half court shot nothing but net at the RC to win a brand new Mustang or something. The dude from Mastel Ford browned hisself.
Anybody else remember that?

Don't remember the year exactly, but I do remember the shot....As I recall, the ball hit the rim, bounced up and hit the shot clock and went through.
I was doing the game videos at the time and had to take video each time they ran the contest to send to the insurance co. for verification in case the shot was made.
There was talk of not awarding the car 'cause the ball hit the shot clock, not by Mastel, but I guess the ins. co. was not gonna pay ....would've been a PR disaster. I even had to sign an affidavit for the insurance co. saying I witnessed the shot going in.
After that, they always said before the the shot in a disclaimer that it it had to be a LEGAL basketball shot to count.
