What a joke the NCAA is. Memphis is slapped on the wrist and Bonas gets put on life support for its infractions. The NCAA's hypocrisy is beyond belief. It's always about the money and the big schools always get a free pass

I agree that the NCAA is widely inconsistant and in that it is a disgrace but - unless, I'm incorrect, didn"t it find that the university was not involved at Memphis, but the player independantly cheated. That, if so, is no where near egregious as having the President of the university endorsing and encourgaing the infraction. Now before you say you want to sell me a bridge in Brooklyn, the question we, outside the loop, will always ask - how could some one at MU not have known? Given the track record of some of the personal there I'm suspect as well. I equate it more to the one year probation hit we took for the Jim McMillian recruiting faux pas.

Lets see - the last 2 times an NCAA Final 4 team had to give back its banner was UMass & now Memphis...both coached by Calipari
His punishment - he is now perhaps the highest paid coach in NCAA.....cheating works !!

This wasn't a red flag for the university? They were told they were under investigation In early October but still let the player play? The NCAA publishes it's report after the Final Four??? What BS.

How does Coach Calipari teams get nailed on something like this twice and not get any punishment. I have no respect for Memphis or Calipari before this news release, nor after.

You will not hear about any more Calipari wrongdoing for a long long time now. No way anything comes out that would look bad for Kentucky basketball. The NCAA will hide that for life.

EVERY TIME some school gets hit with some NCAA punishment, there is an immediate outcry here about how we got screwed by comparison. Then someone, like sony did here, points out (correctly) how our situation really was worse, and almost unprecedented b/c it involved the school president, not just some out of control coach or athletic department or booster or "student-athlete". And we re-live the pain. The school and the program accepted the punishment, didn't appeal, and has moved on. Let's follow that lead. Anyone know who's looking good in pick-up games?

i know sbu didnt get the death penalty...what i should have said is that mich, toledo, northwestern and bc should have gotten much more severe punishments than they did...but, with mich, nu and bc in bcs conferences..they didnt and never would...throwing fb and bb games is about as bad as it gets...

ceharv, How was Bonas worse. Rose cheated on his SAT and the school knew they had problems before last years season started but the NCAA overlooked the whole situation. do you really think the athletic dept and coach didn't know they had a problem. This hyprocrisy by the NCAA should be discussed or the situation will never get better.

The problem @ Bonas was that the administration were the one's doing the cheating.

I'll tell you what, cheating is cheating no matter who is responsible. It is supposed to be sport and played by rules.
Unfortunately the dollar has become the focal point, and dirt bags like Calipari, Sampson, and the Harricks keep getting chance after chance because they bring in the cash.
It is just to damn bad nobody asks how they win so consistently. It sure amazes me as to how some of these people in the NCAA just keep looking the other way as their bankroll gets added to every year.Sport will not prevail as long as someone out there is willing to give Calipari et all the chance to do it again.
