The Binghamton game is on, not sure of the exact date either. Along with Canisius, Cleveland St., and Bradley the non conf. home games at the RC looks to be done....Lets hope that the community gets out and supports the team. Conversations with the coaching staff always bring up the "we need to get the red seats back" . Not just for the big games but every home game. Along with it has we get better it is becoming harder to get quality teams to come to Olean to play. School does not have the money to pay for teams to come. Recent talk says teams want us to pay all expenses to come and we cant do it. Double edge sword. We get better, but struggle to get better teams here. University has to get creative and come up with ways to reach out the community. Have to promote your product!!!

The Bonnies should go the route of the John Chaney led Temple Owls. Play Top 20 teams on the road and schedule mid major programs like Canisius, Binghamton, Cleveland State for the out of conference home games. Bonnies will benefit from a tough OOC schedule once league play begins. I would rather see us play nationally ranked programs and have the program get some visability. We have a potentially dominant player in Andrew and need to schedule him against quality opponents to get him ready for the A10. Like most D1 programs, the Bonnies only road to the NCAA is through the league and having a formidable OOC schedule will help the SOS which under the Sol years was a joke. I see little benefit in playing a home and home with St. Francis or Central Connecticut. Go out and play Missouri, Houston or Wake Forest. Bring in some dollars and prepare the team for the conference season.

jh - I'm not sure the NCAA would approve a casino tied to an event. But you bring up a great point. A tournament might be the perfect option. One of those excempt mini-tournaments that only count as one game vs. the limit but allows each team to play 3 games might be the drawing card we need to get some teams to visit Olean. The question then becomes is there enough rooms available for the teams and their followers if we had 5 teams in at once...

You might get fannies in the seats but, it seems to me that they all just sit there on their thumbs just as if they're watching a movie and most of then are the affair to show any emotion, Therefore, just offer free Geritol and Viagra shakes!
The changing demographics in the Greater Olean Area has a really effect on turnout at the games.
Wasn't the SBU Marketing Dept. doing a survey last year with the fans coming to the games? And if so what were the results?
Go Bonnies !!!

bona has had the option of playing niagara canisius and ub on a twice a year basis ,but discontinued those relationships...there was local fan interest there...Bradley is a good team, but no one in this area follows them...that is excellent marketing ..take anyone you can get.

It does us no good to play those team twice like we did 15-20 years ago. Once is enough. Save Niagara's recent run over the last five years, beating those teams twice doesn't prove a thing and only takes away a game against a solid mid-major like Bradley, CSU, Kent State or Toledo. There's no point of scheduling teams for "fan interest" when you could play a game that will boost your RPI and strengthen your post-season resume, the result of which is ... more interest within your fan base. Scheduling better teams ultimately has the same effect, only you run the chance of making the post-season should you win a few.

There is no need to consider fan interest when echeduling OOC games. Once the schedule is made then you worry about getting people to the games. One way to get people to the games is with Ws. Thats where it is going to start.

Absolutely, OOC games are more about developing the team so they are ready to play the conference schedule, boost RPI, and throw in a few cupcakes in there to get on a roll. There is no need to play teams Home and Home unless they are from a major conference.

The changing demographics in the Greater Olean Area has a really effect on turnout at the games. I'm not sure I understand what this means? How are the "demographics" changing? Job losses? Poor economic indicia? Help me here.
