SYRACUSE, NY -- Long-time rivals Syracuse and St. Bonaventure will get back together on the hardwood when the Orange host the Bonnies on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, in the Carrier Dome. It will be the first pairing between the two foes since the 2006-07 season. Syracuse has a 22-3 advantage in the series with St. Bonaventure which dates to the 1923-24 campaign. The Orange has won the last 12 contests with the Bonnies, including an 82-70 victory on Dec. 30, 2006. Mark Schmidt is in his third season as St. Bonaventure’s head coach. He was the coach at Robert Morris prior to moving to Olean, N.Y. St. Bonaventure made a seven-win improvement between Schmidt’s first and second seasons, going from 8-22 to 15-15. The campaign included an overtime triumph against BIG EAST Conference member Rutgers. The Bonnies were 6-10 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Season ticket renewal information is available on-line at www.suathletics.com. New season tickets are scheduled to go on sale September 16.

Old rivals Syracuse-St. Bonaventure to meet in 2009-10 season by Mike Waters / The Post-Standard Tuesday September 01, 2009, 10:42 AM
Once upon a time; basically the 1970s, Syracuse University's biggest rival was St. Bonaventure.
The two schools seemed to meet every year in the ECAC Playoffs.
Syracuse and St. Bonaventure will face each other again in the 2009-10 season. The Orange will host St. Bonaventure at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Dec. 19. Syracuse University officials announced the game as part of SU's non-conference schedule today.
This will be the first meeting between SU and Bona since the 2006-07 season. Syracuse has a 22-3 advantage in the series with St. Bonaventure which dates to the 1923-24 campaign. The Orange has won the last 12 contests with the Bonnies, including an 82-70 victory on Dec. 30, 2006.
St. Bonaventure went 15-15 last season, including a 6-10 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

I'm very excited for this game. Not only is it great that we're now playing a pair of Big East schools, but with Syracuse losing their top 3 scorers, I feel like we'll match up well with SU and we'll have a good opportunity to take one from them this year.
2 newcomers to Syracuse worry me more than anyone on their roster. An Iowa State transfer, 6'7" Wesley Johnson, will most likely be our biggest challenge on defense against SU. Freshman Brandon Triche, a 6'3" point guard, will likely start right off the bat. Both Triche and Johnson are athletic and can score in bunches. If SBU can play well enough to control specifically Johnson as well as Rautins on the perimeter, I think we'll have a d**n good shot at taking this game. In the middle I think we can just about hold our own against Onuaku/Rick Jackson with Nicholson/Roseboro.
That being said, I'm fully prepared for the Bonnies to kick down some doors of these Big East schools and properly represent the fine talent we have here in the A-10.
