to USC www.insideprepsports.net/files/Go_West_Young_Man.htmBreaking News: Go West Young Man 9/27/09 Inside Prep Sports Detroit, MI.- Official visits often pay off and the trip for one Michigan point guard was beneficial for the Southern California Trojans. Saginaw Arthur Hills’ 2010 5’6” point guard Maurice Jones is often referred to as Michigan’s best pound for pound player, if not the country. While exchanging messages back and forth with ‘Mighty-Might’ during the USC-Washington State football game, Jones accepted Trojans head coach Kevin O’Neil offer to attend the Los Angeles-based University. Continuing, Jones is dynamic with the ball in his hands and has the ability to dish out double figure assists while scoring thirty points, as he did at Spiece’s Run ‘n’ Slam in early May against a high major Boo Williams squad. Jones also had offers from St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, Providence, and many other notable programs. The PAC-10 is used to Michigan players that are vertically challenged that have had success…Oregon’s 5’7” Tajuan Porter of Detroit Renaissance ‘06. By TJ Kelley

I love St. Bonaventure and enjoyed my time there, but damn, LA would be tough to pass up. The big city, beautiful women, beautiful weather, USC football in the fall, the PAC-10 and a beautiful arena to play in. That's a lot to compete against. Time to lock down Eli Carter.

Damn. Tough to compete with USC for all the reasons adolph mentioned... I just have a feeling USC bball is in for a tough stretch, than again that athletic department has been getting away with anything and everything for years...

Bravo to the coaching staff as they must have a sincere message and a great presentation that will eventually pay off with these high profile recruits.

I'd hope we keep in touch with him. Many players who get in over their heads with big programs end up transfering to schools they're familiar with.

Sorry to see that MJ did not do his homework.
Kevin O'Neil has a well earned reputation as a great recruiter but is a complete dick toward his players.
His interim stint at Arizona was a complete disaster. He is an absolute control freak who coaches paint-by-the-numbers offense where a fast, up-tempo point guard will go to die.
No other coach wanted the USC job because the NCAA is going to hit them very hard. O'Neil, who couldn't hope to get another job, backed into USC and unfortunately MJ and his HS coach took the bait.

I have had the distinct pleasure (or displeasure) of meeting Kevin O'Niel. He is from a town next to where I grew up and he came back and did a speech at a bball camp I was attending when I was in high school. He is a HUGE DBag. Everyone was really excited to hear from an actual D1 coach and all he did was yell and scream, add no real insight as to what it takes to be a good bball player or coach, and just generally make an ass of himself. Have fun with that Maurice. I definitely hope we stay in contact with this kid, because after everything shakes out there and he sees the way O'Neil really is, he may be looking for a way out.

USC (University of Spoiled Children) and UCLA are just great schools located in wonderful gang banger hoods. I'm sure that attending USC his running (from other gang bangers) and shooting (they issue 9mm) will improve greatly.
In the 30 years that I've been out here both of those campus have gone from middle class nieghborhoods to run down gang infested, shopping cart pushing homless that sleep on campus in their tents.
But, the kid is from Jersey/NYC so sleeping in filth should just be normal for him. I GUESS COW TIPPING ISN'T MUCH FUN ANYMORE!
