After playing the final year of his career at St. Bonaventure under Mark Schmidt, 2008 graduate Tyler Relph has returned to his alma mater to serve as the director of player personnel and managers under the third-year head coach. www.gobonnies.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/092809aab.html

Glad to finally see the official announcement of Relph back on board. He is being utilized perfectly. His passion for the game & for Bona will be contagious. Tyler had to overcome limiting chronic injuries as well as early encounters with APD. The player we saw in the second half of his senior year was the player we all expected to see from day one. I remember the let down when we saw him play his first minutes at Marist. Expectations were quite high but his foot problems kept us from seeing his talents until the very end of his career when his stats were quite impressive. Tyler will have a positive impact on our players on and off the court. Welcome back!

What are the odds that Relph is Head Coach one day?

What are the odds that Relph is Head Coach one day? I wouldn't bet on it. Also, the article incorrectly claims Relph led the nation in free throw shooting in 2007-08. That's untrue. It was originally stated Relph would replace Matt Pappano as director of basketball operations, the role that has historically supervised team managers. However, it looks as though Pappano will stay, as Relph's role is a newly created position.

Good to see Tyler back as well. With all he battled through while at Bonas, he will be a great example and role model for our young team. Coach Schmidt just seems to be doing everything right.

Considering most of what he battled he brought upon himself, I don't consider that a role model. While I like his heart as a player he made some bad choices off the court while a student, which I wouldn't want my son or daughter thinking was ok. No problem with the hire but let's not rewrite history here.

Lums, I don't want to get into an argument with you, but here's the issue with your FT leaders:
1) They aren't the final stats for that season. Jaycee Carroll played in 35 games that year and finished 137 for 149. Not 34 and 132-143.
2) Being that these aren't the final stats for that season, I'm guessing Relph is left out because he didn't qualifty at that time. You need to make 2.5 per game played to qualify. Going into his 29th and final game that season, Relph was 69-74 from the line. The 69 makes wasn't enough to qualify in 28 games. But after going 6-for-6 against Fordham in the final game, he then qualified.
3) Toolson's numbers weren't recognized by the NCAA because Utah Valley isn't yet a full member of the NCAA. They are still a provisional school, being evaluated for full membership.
That's why it looks like a totally different list.
Finally, Relph received a plaque from the NCAA after the season, verifying that he led the nation in FT pct. So indeed, the article is true.
Why would the SBU sports info dept make that up?

Wow, I thought my 30 seconds spent on ESPN.com looking this up was a complete, utter waste of time, but this ...?

Lums, I hate to say it but you were the one who looked it up in the first place (who knows why?) and took upon yourself to erroneously call out the SBU sports info dept for being wrong. That was an utter waste of time and so is this reply. You were wrong. No need to resort to being a d-bag about it.

I'm not worried about the mistakes he made off the court. A person who messed up in the past can often make a better role model. He's been there, he suffered consequences, and he learned from it. He is a great hire.
