Russell Smith, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound combo guard who played for Jack Curran's Molloy Stanners last season, said he is adjusting well and has a good time at South Kent in Connecticut. "The guys are great here," he said. "I'm having a good time, working hard, getting ready for the season."
Smith said he remains open in his recruiting process though schools like Auburn, Ball State, St. Bonaventure, and Houston had offered him over a month ago.
"I hope to make a decision before the high school season begins," he said. "If not, then during it."
Smith said he doesn't have a leader either in his recruiting process. Russell has played well in the IS8 League, averaging over 30 points a game. He is a prolific guard, able to produce points in bunches and from anywhere on the court.
PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF RUSS SMITH'S INDIVIDUAL GAME:
A superlative scorer around the rim, Smith has a knack for finishing tough drives. He is capable of taking over games with his scoring, and does the majority of his damage within 12 feet of the hoop. He is able to break down defenders with his dribble and get into the lane for floaters or runners.
PREVIOUS COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES Louisville, Rutgers, DePaul, Virginia, Connecticut, and Notre Dame.
Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on tri-state prospect Danny Lawhorn, who competes now at South Kent in Connecticut. Lawhorn is now a 2011 recruit ...
Danny Lawhorn, a 5-foot-10 guard from South Kent School in Connecticut, said he's still working on his top ten list. "I have some time since I'm now in the 2011 class," he said. "Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Florida and South Florida have been interested," he said, after telling us previously that Villanova was involved and he had an offer from St. Bonaventure.
Previously, Danny was recruited by several high division one programs and had made a verbal commitment to Boston College. He later changed his mind.
A junior now, he also previously said that Rutgers, Fairfield, and St. Peter's have offered a scholarship.
Previously, Lawhorn mentioned interest in Fordham, Baylor, Maryland, UAB, South Florida, and Texas.
"My situation is going very good now," he said. "
