Anthony is most certainly here and was enjoying himself very much at open practice tonight. Taking notes, and smiling a lot! here is a great write up on Ireland... blogs.rep-am.com/off_the_record/?p=254On Ireland: The 5-9 Crosby point guard is still waiting for the best offer in the right spot, and Crosby coach Nick Augelli has hoped that the CIAC tournament run might open some eyes that weren’t open before. If that did not happen Wednesday night against Public, then it never will. Against Danny Lawhorn, who has already committed to Boston College, and who has been called the best point guard in the state, “Ant” as his teammates call him, sparkled. He played better defense than Lawhorn, and managed to foul Lawhorn out with just under 3 minutes left in the game. Ireland scored at will, hitting for 33, with seven assists, and made brilliant passes. Lawhorn had one assist and eight turnovers. Crosby's Anthony Ireland is the best point guard in the state, period. If college recruiters believe that the Public point guard can handle the ACC, then my friends, AI can handle a whole lot more. But if only he wasn’t so small, we say. Ireland is no smaller than Lawhorn, and though he is not as quick, AI feels the game better, has a Newtonian IQ for what is happening on the floor, and, most importantly, the understanding about what his team needs from him in any given moment. Bottom line: I still do not know where Ireland will go to school, but yes, he is going to be one heck of a point guard for the Division I program that is smart enough to see that.

Anthony is a very impressive PG. His senior year #s at Crosby HS were: 29.2PPG, 5.1 APG & 6.7 rebs. During the summer, playing for Carroll, he improved his ball handling and learned to take better care of the ball. Can score from the perimiter with a high release (for a 5'11" shooter). Long arms & big hands allows him to play bigger.
Here is a recent article: Recruiting News ArticleBack to Recruiting News>>Brand New Year for Ireland October 11th, 2009 New England Recruiting Report Lots has changed for Anthony Ireland in the last year, most especially his recruitment. A lot can change in a year. At this time last year Anthony Ireland was fighting to get on the Division I radar. He didn’t have any scholarship offers at the time and was only hearing from local Connecticut schools. Fast forward a year and Ireland is one of the region’s most heavily recruited point guards. “Two things really happened,” Ireland said. “First, I just worked hard on my game in the last year and second the exposure I got over this past summer definitely helped me a lot.” That exposure came when running the point for the New England Playaz as they had their latest terrific season, finishing with a record of 30-5 on the season and advancing all the way to the finals of the Adidas Super 64 Tournament in Las Vegas. Ireland also credits playing for head coach John Carroll, the former head coach at Duquesne University and of the Boston Celtics, for helping his game reach new levels. “Playing for Coach Carroll bettered my chances of playing college basketball because he really helped me to understand the game more,” he said. “I got a lot better at limiting my turnovers and playing smart on the floor.” Ireland’s play steadily improved throughout the course of the grassroots season and culminated in July when the Playaz were competing on some of the biggest stages in the country. Needless to say the talented guard was no longer having problems attracting the attention of college coaches. Now he boasts an impressive list that literally stretches from coast to coast. “I’m hearing the most from LMU [Loyola Marymount], St. Bonaventure, VCU, LaSalle, and Temple,” Ireland said. “Everyone but Temple has offered.” But Ireland’s journey is far from over as he recently arrived at the Winchendon School for a post-graduate year. “It’s real nice so far,” he told the New England Recruiting Report, “and playing at Winchendon for the year could open more options.” All indications are that Ireland will have every opportunity to be a big part of what promises to be a very good Winchendon team this year. “I’m really happy to have him,” said Winchendon head coach Mike Byrnes. “He never gets flustered, plays with great composure, and makes big free-throws down the stretch.” Ireland is in no hurry to make a decision and said he won’t mind if he doesn’t end up signing until the late signing period in the spring. “I just want to find someplace where I can play, fit in, and play my style,” he said. “I’m happy with the group of schools I have right now but I never say I’m satisfied.”

Actually Frank, Crosby has two players in the A-10.. Saunders and B.J. Monteiro both with the Dukes.
I haven't seen Ireland play as I didn't do any of their games last year. I can tell you one thing though, they have a lot of D-1 players coming out of that program lately.

He was picked Topballerz Connecticut's player of the year. Website has pictures and video of Anthony Ireland. IRELAND IS BEST IN CONNECTICUT Waterbury, Connecticut “He’s the best point guard I’ve seen in 17 years,” said Torrington High head coach Anthony Turine, “he’s a winner.” Turine along with the majority of basketball coaches in the State feel the same way about Crosby’s Anthony Ireland upon being named TopBallerz.net High School Basketball Player of the Year. Returning after a junior year where Crosby won the 2008 State Championship, the 6'1” Ireland averaged 29.2 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists throughout his senior year. Scoring 25 or more points in 17 of 20 regular season games, Ireland reached 1,630 points in his career highlighted by a 46-point effort against Ansonia High. Crosby rode the shoulders of Ireland as they made their way back to the State Finals. A last second basket in the quarterfinals against then undefeated Hillhouse and a triple double (28 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds) in the semifinals against Stamford set up the game of the year against 22-1 Windsor. Hampered by an injured wrist, Ireland battled waves of defenders from the top ranked Warriors throughout the game. With only seconds to play and Crosby down by three, harassed by defenders, Ireland’s double-pump attempt from 20 feet out was his last shot as a high school player as the Bulldogs are defeated 72-69. “I had a good look at the basket,” said Ireland, “it just went in and out.” Finishing the game with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assist, and 5 steals, Ireland was an easy choice for the All-Tournament Team. With his high school playing career behind him, Ireland looks towards the future. The Gatorade State Player of Year finalist is being courted by Division I programs throughout the country. “This is obviously the toughest decision I will make to this point in my life; I am looking at a lot of information right now to make a smart decision.” “I think he’s the best pound for pound player I’ve seen over the past two years” said Bernie Armstrong, TopBallerz.net Prep advisor, “put him on any team in the State and he’ll give them a chance to win.” A great scorer and all around player, Ireland’s best asset is his ability to make his teammates better. “For a guy that is so exciting to watch, he has a way of slowing everything down for his teammates when he steps on the floor. He gives them the confidence to win, he’s the ultimate leader.” Ireland gave the fans of Crosby and basketball viewers throughout Connecticut a thrill for the past four years. We are confident he’ll make an impact next season. www.topballerz.net/HSBBPOY.htm

Good crop of players in Waterbury right now. I'm keeping an eye out down in my area of CT (FCIAC).

Mikenice, I work the SCC games and only see the Waterbury teams at playoff time. I know Turner has a lot of publicity around his game. If I hear anything I'll post it.
