I am excited about the game in Rochester. One of my favorite games ever was in Rochester. 70-69 in the ECAC playoffs against Syracuse. Delmar Harrod over Rosie Bouie. The Bona students knock the backboard over and it shatters on the floor. We then beat VCU on a last second shot by Waterman that sends us to the NCAA's. This was the year after the NIT championship. There are some complainers about playing a game in Rochester or Buffalo, but Bonas has always had to do this. Games in the old Aud anyone ever hear any stories of those? I am not old enough to have been there. In the 78 season Bona played ND in Rochester . They were ranked 5th in the nation and beat us by one. I still remember Digger whining about the refs even when he got every call. Kelly Tripuka and Duck Williams were the stars. HagAn made Williams look silly. We also played Marquette there a year later I think. Saw a young Doc Rivers playing for them. (I am old) We need to schedule games in Rochester and Buffalo against BCS level teams. We have a history of doing this and we need to continue. They are not coming to Olean . One out of confernece game a year in Buffalo and Rochester is smart and will only help our RPI when that starts to matter again (this year? ??). I hope that Watson will ignore the usual short sighted thinking of some Bona fans and do what is right for the program.

I covered the ND game for Eastern Basketball. Was an exciting contest though I remember the usually dependable Tim Waterman missing an easy dunk and ND getting a momentum dunk in transition after the miss. Remember Hagan with those sleepy looking eyes just doing a job on the ND backcourt. A few years ago I was interviewing Digger at MSG, I saw Hagan in the stands after the Digger. We exchanged pleasantries and Glenn said 'that's Digger, right?' I said yes . Hagan proceeds to reintroduce himself to Digger and says ," I destroyed everyone you had guard me." It was classic. Also just after the ND-Bona game at Rochester Digger did say to Satalin 'you got every ca''. Sats' response can't be printed here. Best of luck on tuesday.

Waterman played on a severly sprained ankle. They weren't even sure he would play. Bonnies only went 6 deep. Belcher coming off the bench. I think Laimbeer was there.

I almost got thrown out of that game because I took issue with the ref's calls and used what would now be described as inappropriate language (and it was).
Also, I believe dunking was still illegal in college ball at that time, but we know what you mean.

Actually dunking was legal. It was reinstated at the beginning of the '76-'77 season. Another thing about that '78 ND club..Of all Digger's teams that was the one and only that went Final Four. They were eliminated in the FF semis by Duke coached by Bill Foster.
Still, a memorable game that afternoon in Rochester.

Funny how memories are. I didn't think dunking was reinstated until after I had graduated. Of course, now that I've thought about it some more, I do (think I) remember Essie dunking in that landmark game against cuse.
A heartbreaker of a game in any event. We were so pumped for that one.

Greg Sanders was caught shoplifting before the Cuse game. I was in 7th grade and I was so mad, but my dad reassured me that there must be some alums in Rochester that were lawyers. Sanders played that night. The next day there was a picture of Sanders in the D&C with two lawyers both Bona grads.

Wasn't Bill Laimbeer on that ND team, as well?? That team for ND was one of the most loaded college teams of all time and a big reason I say that Digger might have been a great recruiter but a LOUSY coach. They had Tripucka, Laimbeer, Bill Hanslick (?), who also had an outstanding NBA career, and Orlando Woolridge throughout four or five years and I don't think they made it out of the NCAA tourney past the second round ANY of those years!
