Mookie Jones is disgruntled at Syracuse walked off the bench during a game the other night because Boeheim wanted to put him during garbage time vs. Cornell. He may be looking into transferring, I would hope there would be room at Bonas if there was interest. He's a 6'7 shooting guard who can hit 3's.

Do you really want a guy that walked off the bench during a game? Not sure he'd get along any better here than there.

Just curious, does the BIG EAST have the same interconference transferring rule as the A10? A player must sit out 2 years when transferring to another school in their conference.

You serious? Syracuse and Jim Boeheim's problem doesn't constitute Bona's answer. I don't really care to learn any more about him other than the fact he ditched his club during a game, thus making him a loser, which we're done recruiting.
Until he's guarding John Hall, unfortunately I won't be keeping an eye on Mookie Jones, if he even exists. By the way, we already have a 6-7 transfer. I'm all set.

I have to believe the staff is putting tremendous pressure on itself to maximize Andrew's impact on the program. The program is on the upswing and I expect our recruiting to continue to improve but, realistically, it is rare event fo us to have the best center in the A10 (if not this year, by next). I'm thinking the staff is going to go all out to get another impact player or 2 in for next year, I'm not sure where we are on scholarships, but I gotta believe if we can hook into an immediate impact player, whether it be a 4 year player or juco, scholarships will be found. I think we pass on a transfer who won't be available until Andrew's senior year unless he is a solid blue chip player,
Did we recruit Mookie ? I don't recall his name as being a target.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Go Giants !

I've never seen Jones play, but he was pretty well regarded coming out of Peekskill HS (New York - Westchester County). Hurt his hip last year as a freshman and I believe he redshirted. Walking off the bench doesn't sound good though.

Keep in mind Mookie Jones if he transferred this semester would be eligible late Dec. 2010. I am by no means saying St. Bona is interested or not I am just throwing it out there.

Mookie was Rivals 35th and ESPN 34th ranked player in the nation. Coming out of high school big time recruits like Mookie do not consider mid major programs like Bonas. It takes a blue chip recruit transferring, because of frustration over playing time for a mid majors to have a chance at signing players like Mookie. With Schmidt signing Greese (top 125 recruit) and looking at Corey Chandler (top 75 recruit) certainly shows he is willing to consider blue chip recruits, who may have issues and willing to wait a year before they are eligible to play. We do not want anything like the mess at Binghamton and Schmidt is a quality coach who would never allow this to happen. I would trust Schmidt's judgment if he signed a player like Mookie. As for Mookie he is frustrated with his playing time and he walked off the bench, he did not commit a crime. Thankful Tim Winn, JR Bremer and Greg Sanders were not kicked off the team for their mistake, which was more severe than walking off the bench. Sipo Big East transfers would have to sit out 2 years if they transfer to another Big East school.

Thanks CHUCK, that's all I wanted to know, I always wondered that when a recruit has a large % of schools from a single conference recruiting him and ends up at one of these schools. I agree with LUMS, we already have a 6-7 coming in. BTW, I talked to a former staff member today and he said the staff briefly looked at MOOKIE but there was no interest in SBU on his part, understandable at the time.

Good post Chuck, especially the stuff about Winn, Bremer and Sanders. And didn't we have a whole team that quit on a season and welcome back the ring leader of the boycott, Marques Green? (I know, not a great comparison).
The point is, there's no reason to jump on a poster for merely bringing up a name of a kid who could be available soon and a kid who we don't know the whole story about. Weren't many posters advocating the signing of Chandler, who was known to experiment with drugs? Weren't many posters criticizing Schmidt for throwing Greese, who periodically missed or was late to team functions, off the team before the A-10 tourney?
Like Chuck said, I trust Schmidt. And thanks for the info on Jones BO2. If he does transfer, I would be surprised if we didn't show interest.

Alot of great points and posts, i guess my standing would be: " In Schmidt i trust ".......whatever he and the staff decides to do, i trust....... they're bound to miss on a few along the way but i think the personnel decisions so far have been pretty good, i trust whatever they do and looking forward-i cant wait to see Horace Mcgloster and Eli Cater next season....

Good 'lokking ahead' thinking out of the box B02 - any kids leaving Syracuse are already ok with the upstate NY location and a kid over recruited would find an A10 school like us a real possibility
