Dereck Whittenburg "released from his contract" today by Fordham. Assistant Jared Grasso will take over in the interim. Grasso is said to be a good recruiter, but no way is he going to fix this. Could get worse before it gets better, as AD Frank McLaughlin should probably go, as well. When we look back at Fordham basketball, we'll see 12/2/09, the day Jio Fontain announced his transfer, on the tombstone. www.fordhamsports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/120309aaa.html

They should call Dennis Wolff, former head coach at BU and Bona assistant. He's a solid guy who would stabilize a program that's real shakey right now. He has nyc roots and got good results at BU. He's also available to step in immediately. He was fired last year by BU in a move that shocked the sports press which was very supportive of him. Fordham's interim is the ass't Jared Grasso. He is a good recruiter but young w/ no head coaching experience. If the keep an 'interim' all year it will screw up their recruiting.

the son of former Duquesne coach Mike Rice, Mike Rice from Robert Morris, has been on the Fordham fan's radar for some time.

the son of former Duquesne coach Mike Rice, Mike Rice from Robert Morris, has been on the Fordham fan's radar for some time. Have to wonder if Rice would still be on their radar? Rice proved he could win with Schmidt's players, especially Jeremy Chappell. Now with only his recruits, Rice is now 1-4. Only win was against Alcorn State, the same team Solomon could routinely beat. Alcorn State is 0-10 so far this season.

Rice is definitely on their radar and would be their top choice. He's an FU alum and has done a tremendous job at RMU (who beat preseason NEC pick Mount St. Mary's last night).

Interesting names given in that article. It must have been really bad to fire Whittenburg this early in the season. I will always remember watching him scream at his players at last years Bona win at Rose Hill Gym with his dress shirt fully out of his dress slacks while jumping up and down. Lets make sure we beat up on Fordham again this year.

Chuck: I may be mistaken but Alcorn State may have given up 36 straight points to Kansas the other night. If that is so, then RMU's win over Alcorn was even less that what you said.
