There was a substitute announcer on WHDL tonight. I think he said his name is Tom Haines. Gary Neese has laryngitis, so this fellow was a substitute. The announcer was excellent. His voice inflection exactly reminded me of the late, Harry Kallas of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Where did Tom Haines come from? He said he was a SBU Alum. Does he announce for some other team? He seemed to get all of the players and action straight. I watched and listened (video & audio about 30 seconds apart) He was far too polished to be an amature. I thought he was super. Anyone know?

There was a Tom Ames that graduated in 1983. He lived on 4th Dev as a freshmen and as I recall, he was from Jamestown.

I believe this guy does radio in the Jamestown area for local HS sports.

He's an insurance agent in Falconer/Jamestown area, and yes he does local high school broadcasts out there, as well. He will be calling Saturday's Savannah State/Bonas game as Gary continues to battle laryngitis.

I would have liked to have had Don McLean come out of the bullpen for Gary.

I wish we had this Tom Haines for all the games, he brings energy and makes the games crystal clear to imagine.

My bad, Tom Ames! I think the guy is awesome and should be the regular play by play announcer hence forth.
