Good all around game for the Bonnies against Savannah State. I thought it was going to be a lot closer. Balanced scoring, good 'D', good ball movement. It will be a little more difficult at Syracuse, but lets enjoy the moment. Great foul shooting too! Conger is looking great, and of course the Professor was holding court again tonight. Four players in double figures is not bad either. Bring on Cuse', great opportunity for the Bonnies to make a big splash against the Orange. Go Bona's!!!

Glad we kept them under 50 as I had hoped. Agree on the play from Conger. Impressed with his skills & Basketball IQ. Mark in the post game, talked about him being quick off his feet, gets to the hole & has a perimiter touch. Sent him to the stripe to nail the 2 tech FTs. Coach often speaks about "stepping on their throat." We succeeded in that today unlike the Le Moyne game. I love our offensive movement & we continue to get lots of team assists. 17 today which may extend our lead in that A10 category. Surprised to hear that House is coming off bad Mono & lost 25 lbs in the last 45 days. Only downside was our board play.

Also liked today how the team seemed to drive to the basket and draw fouls, more today than any previous game.

With all the talent and desire on this team I would love to see a 10-40 offense like the Dukes use. At the end of the game Schmit had Ogo, Jake, Congers, Lewis and Simmons.
BEAT CUSE. GO BROWN INDIANS

I just can't get excited from this game. Savannah State looked about as bad as a D1 team could. They were short, not quick (except the guards), couldn't shoot (even on the wide open shots) and turned the ball over without even being pressured. We really need to schedule better non-conference games. We've had several really soft opponents and this is not going to prepare us for the A-10. When we meet the Mississippi States and Syracuses of the world, we don't know what to do (yes that is a prediction, though I'd love to be wrong on this one).

A few thoughts on the game: 1. Savannah St. looked horrible, but they've had some decent games this season. They defeated Central Connecticut St. and Western Illinois (both D-I teams). They were ahead of Bowling Green with 4 minutes left in the game and lost to Duquesne by 14. Savannah St. game against Georgetown (19 point loss) was a lot closer than the 32 point blowout against the Bonnies. 2. Agree Conger had impressive stats, but 8 of his 10 points were scored from the line. His only bucket was a put back. Hoping Conger can develop into another 3 point option, but so far he has struggled hitting only 29.4% behind the arc (better than only Lewis Leonard). 3. What is up with Lewis Leonard? He looks terrible against Savannah St. backups. He routinely blew by his man for high percentage shots, but hit only 1 of 4 shots. More disturbing was watching Leonard chasing his man on defense. 4. According to Olean Times Herald Jake is just recovering from mono and has been inactive for the last 3 games. Rumor is he lost 25 pounds. Last night he looked really thin. 5. Realize it was against a weak opponent, but Malcolm looked really good. Had 7 assists to only 1 turnover and hit 2 shots from the perimeter. Thought both were 3 pointers, but one must have been just inside the arc (1-2 from 3's). Lately Malcolm has been solid from the line (21-25 last 5 games), which is important considering he leads the team in free throw attempts. www.gobonnies.com/sports/m-baskbl/2009-10/files/gm9sav.htmsports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36175

Speaking of bad D1 teams that the BONNIES are playing this year, (sorry BU) but DRAKE hit 2 free throws with 4 seconds left to defeat BINGHAMTON last night.

Chuck… Excellent comments. John Watson reported that Jake lost 25 lbs due to mono. Too bad after all the hard work to gain muscle over the off season. Actually Conger is only 1-7 from beyond the arc but I like the way he goes aggressively to the hole, drawing fouls & making his FTs at 79%. The fact that he gets fouled so often is a good thing as long as he is solid from the line. There was a beautiful backdoor play to him from Hall where he was well above the rim to slam but the hard foul sent him to the stripe. Like so many, I am very disappointed in LL to this point. I was counting on him to be a solid contributor. Hopefully that may still occur. In spite of his lack of mins he appears to maintain an upbeat attitude which his teammates enjoy. As pointed out, Savannah State is a weak team but in the past we have managed to play down to such an opponent. Happy to see that was not at all the case yesterday. Now to prepare for a far superior team in their Dome.

Think it was previously mentioned that SavState only appeared on the schedule because a previous commitment fell through, so I'm not going to take SBU to task for playing them. To address a comment in a different post, though, I thought the Bonnies DID "play down" at times in the first half. Sloppy. The run to open the second half -- and the eventual name-your-own-score margin of victory -- did improve my overall outlook on the game, though. They did what they needed to against a lower-level team. On to Syracuse.
