Tape Delay on Time Warner. The earliest I could find it was Christmas Eve at 5:00. Syracuse and Oakland are on Tuesday live. If Rautins thinks Nicholson is a thug just wait till he sees Jack Tatum when he goes over the middle.

Will the Bona-Niagara game be on TV? TWC perhaps? Following is from GoBonnies.com: The Bonnies will then travel north to take on Niagara at ‘Taps’ Gallagher Center on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. The game will be produced by Time Warner and shown on tape delay the following day. Fans in Olean and Buffalo can watch the game on Time Warner SportsNet on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Eagle with all due respect, just can't imagine how the Bonnies can lose this game. Here are the reasons for my optimism: 1. How are you going to stop Andrew? Last year you had 6'10" Benson Egemoyne and Andrew scored 23. This year Niagara does not have a starter taller than 6'6". Only size is 6'8" 210 pound freshman Scooter Gillette, but he is only averaging 10 minutes a game. 2. Bilal Benn the team's second leading scorer at 15.6 ppg, is injured and will be missing the game. 6'5" Benn is a "big" you can not afford to lose. By a large margin he leads Niagara in rebounding with 11 rebounds a game. 6'2" Rob Garrison is 2nd in rebounds at 5.2 rebounds a game. 3. I have not forgotten, how Niagara beat the Bonnies by 18 last year. I remember Niagara's guards Lewis, Garrison and Nelson blowing by the Bonnies. Rob Garrison had a terrific night scoring 23 points and was a huge mismatch for Chris Matthews. This year the Bonnies have a quick guard (Ogo) who can keep up with Garrison. Schmidt also had a year to prepare for Niagara's ultra quick guards. Eagle please correct me, I'm expecting a double digit win against Niagara, but realize the game is going to be much more difficult than I expect. Just can't see a lost, but then again that is what I believed last year. www.gobonnies.com/sports/m-baskbl/2009-10/releases/20091217onsfyewww.purpleeagles.com/assets/sports/mbball/mbb%20stats%201214.pdfsports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=283580179

I think our guard play has improved very little from last season and if we don't get back quick enough on defense, then we'll have a near-repeat of last years game. Ogo is only marginally quicker than Blackburn was in my opinion, and Eleby's speed is not his strength. However, I'm encouraged with how we controlled the tempo against Syracuse and forced them into playing half court sets. I think Schmidt was out-coached by Mihalic last season but I'll be damned if he lets that happen again. Go Bonnies, play smart.

We will beat Niagara this year. The team played well at Cuse and hopefully it will carry over to Niagara an dhtier high school gym.

But I cannot forget the loss to Canisius last year in their "high school gym". And even without Benn, Bona will be a slight dog this year on Monteagle Ridge.

Early line has Bonnies as 6.5 point underdog. Benn has been practicing according to the Buffalo Newsthis morning and is questionable. Might play. Will be ineresting to see the style of play. Schmidt likes to run. Was impressed with the half court offense against Syracuse. Always think the best option against Niagara is to keep them out of the running game and pound the ball inside. Let's hope for a big game from Andrew. Listed in the bonnie game notes as starter so I guess he will be playing?

One of the advantages the Cuse had against us was the ability of their guards to blow past all defenders and go all the way to the rim where they appeared to score 90% of the time. The Niagara guards will present big problems for us.
Benn’s availability is uncertain at this time. We better be prepared to deal with all he brings especially his spectacular board play. He scores from everywhere & has 31 assists.
We should be able to handle them on the glass (even if Benn plays) assuming that The Professor is playing. We have struggled defending the trey & they acquire 40% of their points from beyond the arc. That spells trouble if Lewis goes off on us.
Hopefully Chris’ stroke will return but Niagara defends the trey extremely well, allowing opponents to hit only 29%. In spite of their game tempo they turn the ball over less than 12 times a game. Beating them at their place will be quite a challenge

Well you probably don't remember us losing in Canishits high school gym last year because we played them in HSBC Arena.

Solid, inarguable points, Chuck.
I agree Nicholson is going to pose a major problem for a short NU team.
I expect NU to run and run, and I expect Bonas to try to slow the contest down and take the air out of the ball. Bonas forced the ball inside against a talented SU and will assuredly do the same at NU to exploit Nicholson’s talents.
My prediction is that it will come down to our guard play on both sides of the ball. If we execute and shoot well the tide, in my opinion, will favor the Eagles. If the game is slowed down and Bonas is successful in getting the ball up front to Nicholson it could be a long game for us. The good news about NU and can keep them in any game is the green light Coach Mihalich gives them with the trey. It can be a powerful offensive weapon. The bad news about NU and can make them vulnerable to any opponent is the green light to shoot the trey….sometimes we could manage the ball better, IMO.
We have very good guards and are small but athletic up front. Should be a good contest and my guess Benn will play. Schmidt is a very good coach and it is clear Bonas are on the ascent in terms of talent and play.

Bonnies finally had a full roster ... for a while By BRIAN MORITZ , The Times Herald 12/18/2003
LEWISTON In one of the classiest moves you’ll ever see, Niagara honored the memory of former Bona board of trustees’ chair Bill Swan in a pregame ceremony.
Niagara officials presented Ann Swan, Bill’s widow, and interim Bona president Fr. Dominic V. Monti, OFM, with a proclamation passed by Niagara’s board of trustees as “an expression of Niagara’s sorrow and sympathy” for Swan’s death.

The Purple Eagle Games -- Ocean State Bonnie, 19:53:03 12/17/03 Wed (68.9.53.43) Two memories always come to mind when thinking of SBU / Niagara games.
My girlfriend (and future wife) and I went to alot of games together. I remember in particular a home game vs. Niagara when we ended up sitting in the bleachers behind the north basket in the RC. Phil Scaffidi (sp?) was a starting guard for the PE's that year. For whatever reason, my wife really didn't like Phil. In fact, when he took an elbow to the head and skidded into the crowd right in front of us, she screamed like I never heard before or since. And it wasn't in sympathy with Phil.
Phil was also an excellent baseball prospect in addition to a good hoops player. Sadly, he died very young, either while still in school or shortly after getting out of Niagara. I believe he had cancer. Now, whenever we talk about Niagara, we always remember Phil and say a prayer for him.
A year or two before the above mentioned game, I went to the Falls whith a bunch of Bona people to take in the SBU / Niagara game in the convention center. Found out after our victory that the Brown Indian, I believe it was Bob Kusiewicz (sp?), was arrested. He and the &$#^%^$*ing Purple Eagle had gotten into it and someone then stole his head dress. The Holiday Inn in the Falls was invaded after the game by Bona people. I think the hotel banned us from ever coming back.

Well you probably don't remember us losing in Canishits high school gym last year because we played them in HSBC Arena. Excuse me. Maybe I'm confusing last year's exasperating loss with the 2006 loss, the last time Bona played at their "high school gym".

Eagle - nice dig up on that post from 2003. My wife and I just talked about Phil Scaffidi again last night. May he rest in peace.
GO BONA'S!!!!

I, too, think of Phil Scaffidi. Although your wife had one occasion to get on him, my negativism towards him went back to high school days. Sometimes I think about him and hope my vitriole towards him didn't contribute to his condition (thinking of Fr. Trabold here).
