Out of conference games are not as important for a school like Bonaventure as how things shake out during conference play. I don't think I am breaking any new ground here but alot of the questionable officiating which I think has led to Andrew's foul trouble should even out once we hit January. Coach Schmidt has delivered the goods in less than 3 years with a team that on any given night can give anyone a great game. I said earlier that establishing the home court advantage should be a priority and I think it will pan out. Winning on the road in college basketball does not happen often and the losses we have had are all road games We don't have a complete team but we do have alot of interchangeable parts that will benefit us on the court and we do have a difference maker with Andrew. To knock Schmidt, Andrew and everyone else over the recent losses is pointless. If we make a good showing in the A10 and finish strong these losses will not matter that much and if we have a season where we finish about .500, Schmidt will have delivered what he spoke of early in the preseason. A tough out of conference schedule, other teams getting better and Andrew being a kid that everyone now knows about. I can't complain about how things have progressed. We are a talented team and our future is very bright. We are also young and need some players to develop. It is happening. Alot of you guys seem to forget that alot of these kids are a year out of high school and are now playing in the A10 which is a Top 7 conference. Schmidt has rejuvinated this program and we are now getting noticed. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Actually, W-L wise we are exactly where I and probably many others predicted. Sure, the ST. JOHN's, ILL ST, & now the NIAGARA games were frustrating but we haven't lost to any teams that we were favored to beat. So lets all have a safe and Merry Christmas then come back and really throttle the GRIFFS!!

I was thinking they same last night. Temple always seems to put it together for conference play. Lets hope the loses can get us ready.

Here, here...could not agree more with all three posts. Down with the Griffs, except the beloved Griff who strolled our campus for years with a smile for all.

Case in point about scheduling neutral courts. If those 2 games were played in the RC we probably would have beaten St. John's and Boheim would have taken a pass. You then schedule a team like Akron which would probably have gone with a home and home and and the record looks better. We have a bit of a unique situation because of our geography. I agree with ddmuggs regarding Temple picking the record up once conference schedule begins. Again more of a reason to play better programs on the road (to build SOS) because we have not established ourelves as a dominant team that will overpower teams so the road becomes a problem. I think Schmidt and Watson have a game plan and will put it into place. We have an advantage having Watson as an AD who understands our culture and the importance of our program. The 5 year plan is to be a top 50 program and I think we are on that track right now. It's only going to get better.

this acceptance of mediocrity has me troubled. if our goal is to get to the big dance, then every f'n win is important. If our goal is to get to the conference tourney and win a game or two, then fine.... I'll drink the Kool aid

I'm not drinking that Kool Aid. We need to start winning games. Maybe not at Syracuse, but definitely at Niagara. Until Schmidt can win this type of game consistently he still has a lot to prove. Are we going to start putting A-10 tournament banners up in the RC? We need to get the program back to where it was in 2000. Contend for an at-large bid or NIT berth consistently. Losing close and making excuses refs etc. is a loser mentality. Winning is what we need not excuse making.

Each loss is one less feather keeping us away from a Nit bearth. We need wins.

Yeah, I have no idea what the statement "Out of conference games are not as important for a school like Bonaventure" means, but I'm positive I disagree with it.

What it means is the A10 is not a conference that is going to go 7 deep in NCAA selections like Big East, ACC, SEC, Big 10 and Big 12. We have a good year when we land 3 berths. Look at the history. Playing a strong SOS like Temple and having a solid A10 record puts you in a position with a deep run in the conference tourney to be one of the 3. If you want a strong OOC record play weak teams at home. You are not beating SU in the dome. Losing to NU is nothing new. Frank Layden regularly beat a more talented Bonnies squad when he coached. Again-the out of conference are not as important as what happens in league. for post season chances. You can dress it up as much as you want but the A10 is considered a mid major league and that is the avenue teams have to take.

I don't know how you can give schmidt and watson the accolades you do then go on to say we have no chance of beating SU.
with all due respect, your posts on this subject make no sense.
Merry Xmas

What is SU's record at home Pete, outside of the Big East? What have they lost since it opened. 10 games? That is where I draw my conclusions from. You guy's need to get realistic about where we are and this is coming from someone who was looking for 20+ wins. Do you really think there are two guys out there who would have done a better job than Coach Schmidt and Watson. Maybe we should bring Sol and Gothard Lane back to resume the "marching forward" fiasco.

I'm not talking about Syracuse. I'm talking about beating Niagara and schools of that ilk. We need to start seeing wins. Headed in the right direction yes, but we need results!!! Just win baby.

I agree. We need to stop being happy with barely losing games to good teams. We need to win games we aren't supposed to once and a while. I can't be happy with mediocrity anymore.
