Out of conference wins are vital. We are not going to win the A-10 tournament very often - if ever. For Bonas to get to the NIT, much less the Big Dance, we have to prove ourselves with our whole record. Wins against quality OOC teams is a must and no less important than a conference win.
I think have to further upgrade the quality of our OOC opponents. If we can't win these types of games, we aren't going anywhere in the A-10.

'Couldn't agree with you more, mcspin....I would have expected a loss against probably the number one team in the MAAC if they weren't playing without unquestionably their best player in Benn and we didn't have a double digit second half lead. I know I came to Bonaventure when these games against Niagara and Canisius were paramount and we were just starting out in the Atlantic 10 (Eastern Eight, then), so I'm more passionate about winning these games, but if we can't start becoming more successful in these Big Four games from teams from inferior conferences, we can't pretend this program is getting better to a great degree.

No the sky isn't falling.
I think we need to get real. I don't think a lot of Bona people/fans/whatever understand that Niagara has a pretty damn good program right now, with a lot of continuity and a lot of winning ways. I don't care who you are, that's a tough game to win in their gym. I would guess Niagara would be a top 5, 6 A-10 team the last 6-7 years.
That being said, a loss to Canisius at the RC is not acceptable and would be an illustration that the program is stuck in neutral this year. Until that happens, I'm not overly concerned.

There is no way Niagara would be a top 5 team in the A10 with the tallest player in the starting lineup being 6-foot 6. No way!

If I'm not mistaken, the Bonnies had a nice year with the tallest starter being 6-6.
With Niagara, height isn't a major issue. They play fast and score a lot. Benn, Garrison, Nelson and Lewis are damn good guards/wings who would put up some nice numbers in the A-10. I'm guessing more than a few A-10 coaches right now would take two or three of them in a second.

Yeah, except that Benn didn't play and we blew a 16 point halftime lead against these guys....If we do beat Canisius, I will feel better, but that's not saying much. As a team that is supposed to be improving in a better mid-major conference, we have to win ball games like this one that we just let slip from our grasp with undisciplined play....no excuses!
