Jean is a long way from his home in Ziguinchor, Senegal. However I think he will feel at home seeing his fellow countryman & friend Youssou & hopefully seeing his country’s flag raised during the course of the Cornell game.
He & Youuso are products of the SEED Academy in Africa. Andrew visited there 3 years ago. Toupane has a smooth outside shot combined with athleticism. Here are snippets from various reports on his game.
NERR Report: Ranked third in the state is Jean Yves Toupane, another of Lee Academy’s heralded international products. The Senegal native arrived at Lee with a ton of hype after claiming MVP nods at the 2010 Jordan International game and continued to show signs of his ability and long term potential this season as he adjusted to the American game.
Jean Yves Toupane – Lee Academy’s international star made his summer debut and left having accumulated a steady following. A big wing with a scorer’s mindset, Toupane made shots to the arc and utilized his length to attack the basket with his dribble.
From NERR Report 2010: Jean Yves Toupane is a long and athletic swingman who knows how to put the ball in the basket. Toupane made his American debut last year at the Jordan International game after taking MVP honors at the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders program in Africa. Welcome to the Enchanted Mts Jean. Enjoy your visit.

Looks like he used that pen:
JPbutler10 J.P. Butler Toupane, a 6-7, 185-pound SF, is St. Bonaventure's first signing to the class of 2012. He's graded as an 85 on ESPN es.pn/vUX3Ca 12 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

JPbutler10 J.P. Butler It appears now that 6-7 SF Jean Yves Toupane (@jean_y_toupane) has committed to St. Bonaventure, but hasn't actually signed yet. 12 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

I'm sure glad that the staff gave that fine young man a good seat to watch the game from.

I guess I'm just skeptical due to the past 2 fall signing periods having a commitment fall through. I hope he signs and we don't have to worry about that scenario.

Personally, I am not "worried about that scenario" with JEAN YVES at all! You have to look at the individual student-athlete involved, not just recent recruiting history. Not personally knowing either JEAN YVES or the dreaded ELI, but I sense there is a world of difference between the two and the way their individual signings went down, from ELI's backing himself in a corner at the time to JEAN YVES's desire to come here with the support of his former and future teammate.

It was certainly the right game and atmosphere to close a recruit!
I sat with one of the coaches and Jean-Yves during the pre-game shoot around and you could see that he was very at home in the Bonnies environment.
After the game, when the players, their families and coaches were sitting around I asked him if he enjoyed the energy of the RC and he quickly and with a ear to ear smile nodded YES!
Asked him if he would like to experience the same energy and excitement as a player here and he again very quickly nodded his head YES with the same ear-to ear very charismatic smile!
BTW, I was told he is an excellent soccer player and scored 35-goals at Lee Academy with most of them coast to coast sprints with the ball.
NOW, will there friend and country mate from Syracuse who is not happy with his playing time as is and is being recruited over come and join our BIG Frosh and Jean-Yves here at Bonas to form the Western part of the Senegal National Team?
