I've heard a whole lot about Coach Solomon on this board but how about the other nembers of the coaching staff? Gee, for instance, impresses me. Quiet, well spoken, seems to have an excellent knowledge of the game and a good rapport with the team. Understand that he has good experience as a head coach. Shouldn't his talents be used more? How about giving him some very high-level assistant coach "playing time" as the season winds down. Just might prove to be interesting.

Jayson Gee resume:
Prior to coming to St. Bonaventure, Gee was the head coach at the University of Charleston in West Virginia for seven seasons. There, he assembled a remarkable record of 160-55 that included six 20-win seasons and four NCAA Division II Tournament berths.
Gee's 2002-03 club went 21-10 and reached the title game of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Gee led the Golden Eagles to the second round of the NCAA Div. II Tournament four straight years from 1999-2002. In 1998-99, Charleston earned the first NCAA bid in school history after winning the WVIAC title and finishing 26-6. In 1999-00, Gee was named WVIAC Coach of the Year and was a finalist for Div. II Coach of the Year honors after the Golden Eagles went 28-4 including 18-1 in the WVIAC. Charleston won both the WVIAC regular season and tournament titles in 2000-01 and went 23-7.
John Brannen resume:
Prior to his tenure at Eastern Kentucky, Brannen spent the 1999-00 season at the University of Charleston as an assistant under Jayson Gee, who is now the Bonnies' top assistant. There, Brannen helped the Golden Eagles finish 28-4 and advance to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Brannen is a 1996 graduate of Marshall, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and graduated with honors. He was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist in the state of West Virginia and received postgraduate scholarships from both the NCAA and the Southern Conference.
The 6-8 forward led the Southern Conference in scoring his senior season of 1996-97 at 20.9 points per game and was the runner-up for the conference's player of the year award. He also was named the Southern Conference tournament Most Valuable Player.
Brannen averaged 14.4 points per game as a junior when he played for current Florida coach Billy Donovan. Brannen completed his two seasons at Marshall with 1,008 points. Brannen began his college career at Morehead State before transferring to Marshall.
Following his graduation from Marshall, Brannen played two seasons of professional basketball in Belgium's First Division, where he was named an all-star and also served as a player-coach.

I would hope that Sol's staff works as a team. Isn't Gee's and Brannen's input also in the end product? I have no confidence in the entire situation.

Gee and Brannen are the only 2 coaches that show ANY emotion on the bench. Constantly yelling instructions, pointing out items (ex- Hands up on D !; Cover the wing !; Watch the back door !; Pick left !; Pick right !; etc, etc)
Very hands on coaches that are almost like a 6th. man on the court.
At times it looks like Brannen is going to leave his chair and join the fray ! He plays more "D" from the bench than Lottin has in 5 years ON the court ! Good to see such emotion and involvement - if only the players showed as much we might win a few more games.

Look at the 2 resumes above, and then consider Solomon's resume:
Coaching Experience (16 seasons): • 2003- Head Coach, St. Bonaventure University • 2000-03 Assistant Coach, University of Notre Dame • 1998-00 Asst. Athletic Director/Basketball Operations, Clemson University • 1994-98 Assistant Coach, University of Virginia • 1993-94 Assistant Coach, University of Richmond • 1992-93 Assistant Coach, Manhattan College • 1989-92 Assistant Coach, Bowling Green State University • 1988-89 Graduate Assistant, University of Delaware
If I'm on the search committee back when, and these 3 are finalists, I'm sorry, but Solomon is a distant third in my evaluation. Didn't stay anywhere very long, two one-year stints; and appears to have been nothing but an end-of-the-bench coach/gopher at all his stops.
Director of Basketball Operations for three years at Clemson ? That's basically a job where you organize camps and secure game films from other schools. Hardly a prestigious position.
Same at Notre Dame - he sure wasn't sitting in the seat next to Mike Brey - he was down the bench and it has been mentioned here before that he was just a glorified A/V guy at ND.
Sorry all you Solomon fans, but truthfully, if you are in a room selecting a head coach, and these 3 are finalists, Jayson Gee would be the overwhelming #1 choice !

Guys, this post just solidifies the fact it is not the coaching! It's our lack of A10 talent. These coaches know the game. We just need to keep the young guys we have, and bring in more talent.

What I meant by "Well, hellooooo.." is the same as "What an absolutely delightful piece of information" (Gee's/Brannen's backgrounds)!
How can we get Gee/Brannen literally more into the game(s)? Is more hands-on involvement by Gee/Brannen something that the SBU Athletic Director needs absolutely insist on? I've been a strong supporter of Solomon, but with this kind of talent onboard we need to make the very best use of it as we possibly can. If Solomon needs to get out of the way a little and Gee/Brannen need to step up to the plate a bit more...well, I'm completely for that.
Question....? Why did Gee choose the assistant coach position at SBU? Seems that he might have done better for himself elsewhere.

And they had some type of pact where as soon as the first one got a head coaching job at the DI level, they were going to hire the other to be his asst.

Question....? Why did Gee choose the assistant coach position at SBU? Seems that he might have done better for himself elsewhere. My guess is that coach Gee is not as connected as Soloman is in terms of recruiting. Soloman has been up in the NCAA's while coach Gee has not. But I agree with everyone else in that it seems our coaches roles should be reversed.
