Hey folks, lets face it this season is over and done with it! It is time we look forward to next season. What does that mean? Well, for starters I do believe the basketball program should be reviewed from top to bottom. If that means the end of Sol, so be it. Last nights game was a complete joke. It was a lack of enthusiam and coaching abilities.
You know things are bad when the local radio stations don't lead their sports report off with the Bonnies. Yes, the radio station that broadcasts the Bonnies game didn't even lead with the Bona lost. Even the Buffalo News has regulated us to second class status.
Who is to blame? Well, it all begins and ends with the head coach. I have never met Sol but by all accounts he is a good, decent man. I have no doubt Sol is trying his best. However, his best isn't good enough.
When the season began we were all confident this season would be better than last season. If you simply take into account wins/losses we have shown improvement. In A-10 play we are the laughing stock of the league. We have not shown improvement but rather we have shown ineptitude, playing with a lack of desire and very little chemistry. The players can't be blamed for all this.
Also, with this season lost Lottin should be sitting on the bench giving the younger plaeyrs a chance to improve and show their stuff. At this point do wins/losses mean anything? We aren't going to any tournament so lets plan for next year. Give the younger kids some playing time and experience.
I agree with an earlier posting about how the community has given up on the Bonnies. We are, and have been, true blue to the basketball program. I am afraid at this point the community is saying forget about this team. For the rest of this year and until the team gets better.
While I am at how about improving the PA system. The fans sitting in the red seats can't even hear the marketing man promoting whatever he is promoting. Hey, he has some good ideas but it is frustrating that you can't hear him.
If this program is to improve it is time we hire a solid basketball man who has proven himself. This may cost some money but at this point the program can't afford not to. I say lets hire Bobby Gonzalez from Manhatten.
For many years SBU was the pride of college basketball ins WNY. Now we are at the bottom of the pit. Canisus, Niagara and now UB get better press than we do. Ouch! How the mighty have fallen.
