it's all about the $$$. If the school offers an amazing figure he would come, otherwise why would he want to take this job at this point.

Heck, now that QUIN SNYDER is available why not go after him? His base salary was only $199,000 (with incentives) and maybe he could bring 6-9 LEO CRISWELL along.GEEZ!

Due to family ties I follow Jasper basketball pretty closely & have attended 4 games this year at Draddy gym always awaiting the moment Bobby will get “T”ed up. Refs hate doing his games. Gonzalez is a guy a lot of you Binghamton alums may know since he comes from the area & was assistant at Binghamton 87-88 & Bromme County CC 86-87. In fact he just took on Chris Buckley from Binghamton as an assistant coach. The Jasper faithful were all surprised that Bobby stayed at MC after his very successful 03-04 season when they won the MAAC (16-2) league play & knocked off 5th seeded Florida in the first round of the NCAA. In fact they gave Syracuse fits in the 2nd round. At that time he was nationally recognized for his turn around of the bottom dwelling Jaspers in just 5 years. All in the Metro area felt he was gone from Manhattan but it never came close to that. In August 04 he was offered an extension which he grabbed since no offer of interest came his way. This contract, which believe me is very modest, runs through the 09-10 season. Why he didn’t make the move in 04 is puzzling. He is a good recruiter primarily in NYC where he has real tight contacts. BTW he was never a head coach at any NYC HS team. He was an assistant at Tolentine (never a power house) & an assistant at Rice which is. I can tell you that he is a good motivator & cheer leader for his players but assistants find him very difficult to work for. He is the only voice in the huddle & discourages his assistants from providing any input during a game. As a result there is a revolving door of assistants. Phil Martelli Jr. is one of his first year additions along with Buckley. They keep charts, push chairs around & hand out towels. His other 2 guys are with him only 2 years & are also observers during games. Bobby must be the center of attention. The official team photo in the team’s beautiful media guide Bobby is seated in the middle of the team holding the ball. On the cover he is pictured with two players as bookends to him. I love his interaction with his players during the game. But there may be negative aspects to his personality that are known to the coaching fraternity & come out in interviews. He may have missed his opportunity to move on up. That said he sure has been good for Manhattan basketball.

Personally, I think Gonzalez will move when a bigger program comes along. I kind of like the guy from University of Buffalo. I feel that his recruiting in the MAC gives us a good fit with the conference and his ties to Western New York would be a positive. Academically, UB and Bonas are similar I would think. Do you think this job would represent enough of an upgrade for him? Also, Zwerlin has some ties to the MAC so maybe he is familiar with this guy. Again, if Sol can show me some promise the last 7 games I could be persuaded to give him 1 more year, but the way things are going it might be time to make a change. This is in a perfect world with no contract obligations and I am making the decisions.
