The Second Annual State of the University Lunchtime Phone Conference is now wrapping up. One question that came up concerned filling the AD vacancy. Sister Margaret stated that a large number of interested and qualified candidates started expressing interest within 48 hours of the announcement that Steve Watson was leaving. The list has largely been vetted and is now down to about 10. Sister Margaret anticipates filling the position by mid-March.

Does the uncertainty of who the AD will be have any effect on recruiting?

I know this is the message board for Bona athletics, and I am glad to hear the AD search appears to moving along, but the thing I had not heard before and that shocked me was all the other positions that need to be filled. The Deans of the Business School and the Arts & Sciences are both open? What on earth are we to think?

I almost fell off my chair when I heard all of those positions were open especially Dean of Business being that it has the most students. My thoughts and prayers are with Sister Margret and the Board of Trustees as they have allot of important decisions to with filled positions. In this day and age as Sister told us the Dean works so much more today then in years past with assisting with admissions, and other aspects then in years past.
Really hoping we get some strong candidates while I have my hope on one person in particular for AD.
In addition we must encourage all Bonaventure faithful (alumni, parents of alumni, current students, local community) to become more engaged with Bonaventure then they have before. If you contribute a donation could you give a little more? Could you represent Bonaventure locally at a college night, or setting up events, or assist current students with internships, career advice etc?
I firmly we will come out of all this and we need the assistance of all to do so.
Go Bonas!
PS - I thought the first call was much better. I think one way to do this is to get the question from those asking and not have the direct contact asking Sister & Team the questions.

St. Peter's is working your way to the top? Quinlan may be a goos choice, but his time at Seton Hall should be looked at very closely. You don't have to be from Allegany to understand SBU.
The enrollment management position is the most important position that needs to be filled. Someone young with some fresh ideas would be my choice.

I noticed the job posting indicates the AD will report to the President.

The AD reporting directly to the Prez...day late and a dollar short, but the proper move...that is what drove Watson to Chicago

Just typical of the dysfunction on the second floor of Fort Duquesne.....Watson not retained, when he bled brown and white, and was really only asking for a seat at the table, where he belonged at the time. But no they dug in their heals and refused to get a contract extension with a direct link done. Now we have the Dean of the School of Business departing (announcement made of Christmas Eve....timing just a co-incidence, or a concerted move to keep it out of the press?). And they are still looking for a VP for Admissions, still! Her telephone conference call was as dull as dishwater, almost totally lacking in the passion and emotion the head of this great university should be expressing; some very good and relevant questions were asked by alums however. Yet she refused when asked by an alum to disclose specific enrollment numbers either for frosh in 2014-15 or for numbers projected for new majors. She is still desperately trying to sell her half baked Hilbert plan - six more months in the making - but sitll not public community hearing on the plan. She is really uptight about appearing in front the entire community to listen the pro and cons of this "unification' plan. Again just typical of the insular nature of this administration. Its really time for the Board of Trustees to start looking for new top leadership. Ten years of this group is time enough. We need a Bona centered administration.................now go out and retain it.

Someone young with some fresh ideas would be my choice. Personally, I prefer someone smart who puts out a big effort and makes the right decisions. Experience is usually a big advantage.

I'm hoping the person selected has a strong sense for marketing. The school needs the right positioning and and then a concentrated effort to connect with that segment.

I agree with you Bonas87 with hiring someone with fresh and new ideas for the VP of Enrollment. Higher Education is going through an enormous change and we need someone with different and new ideas to increase enrollment. Social Media and Search Engines are huge Marketing tools. I want a person who understands this, that is great if you have 25 years of experience, but getting students to come to your school is different than it was 10 years ago. I also would hope this person has experience within a private or Catholic school, because recruiting is a totally different animal for a private school compared to a public. The last thing I would hope would be for this person to have experience recruiting students to a rural campus, and it would also be a plus if this area had a declining population. I have a feeling it might be hard to find a person with this type of experience, but that is what I would be looking for in our VP of Enrollment.
