Xavier's 2006-07 Schedule
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was announced today that Xavier is likely to play Bob Huggins and Kansas St. the next 3 seasons. The first 2 games will be at US Bank Arena in Cincy and the 3rd game will be at KSU. Xavier's beat reporter is also reporting that Xavier will play Bucknell at home next season with no return game.
Xavier's schedule for next season is looking very strong and only includes two non-con road games (Creighton and Cincy) and an exempt tourney.
Here is the schedule:
HOME Illinois - USBank Arena Kansas State - USBank Arena (tentative) Arizona State Miami (OH) Bucknell American Detroit Western Carolina Charlotte Dayton Massachusetts Rhode Island Richmond Saint Joseph's Saint Louis Temple
AWAY Cincinnati Creighton Dayton Duquesne Fordham George Washington La Salle St. Bonaventure Saint Joseph's Saint Louis
NEUTRAL Paradise Jam - Exempt Event (with Villanova, Alabama, Iowa, and others)

I've heard only a few games so far, we will be hosting Manhattan and Ohio Univeristy and will be at Syracuse. Anyone heard of any others? or when the official schedule will be out?

I've been asking, but can't get any answers. I feel like Chuck Pollock. All I get are icy stares when I mention the schedule. Sure is a well-guarded secret this year.
Anyone recall who we still have home & home committments with from last year ?
Was hoping Notre Dame might be added, giving Anthony's connections there. Would sell out, even if it's in Rochester.
I like the way Xavier upgraded their schedule, but we're still far from doing that. Have to walk before we run, but I sure don't want to see a repeat of last year's schedule, with all the 290+ RPI teams on it.

From what I recall, we open with 2 games in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament against Chicago State in Austin, Texas. If we win, then it's likely Texas (Yikes!). Niagara, Canisius and 'Cuse at the Dome are the Upstate commitments. We still have 16 A10 contests. The location of 10 single games will be opposite of last fulfilling the two-year contract (except for Fordham, Duquesne and Richmond in home-and-away games). Saint Joseph's LaSalle, Saint Louis, Xavier and Dayton at home. That's 21 games, plus Manhattan and Ohio (??-- which I haven't heard). Adding those two brings us to 23. Looks like we have 3 or 4 games left. Rumors I heard but cannot confirm say American and/or Maryland (can anyone verify?). I don't believe we owe any road games.

How about Toledo at the RC, considering we visited Savage Hall last season? Also, if I'm not mistaken, don't we still owe the Mountaineers a trip to Morgantown, or was that just an exchange of neutral site games? I could be wrong, given the continuation of our never-ending Syracuse series.
Looks as though those who complained about out weak schedule will get their wish this year - and they might not get more than five wins to boot. While it's always important to have powerhouses (Cuse, WVU & Texas, etc.) for recruiting purposes, I was hoping for another watered down OOC slate similar to last season's. We're not looking to contend this year, so why not load up on more cheap wins to generate excitement regionally and have proof of improvement to show recruits a year from now.
On a related note, why not play Siena? It will usually result in a win and might even expand our recruiting base into New York State and result in us signing local talent.

Be careful with that last part regarding Siena. If anyone on their board reads that, they'd have a month-long discussion over it. I'd almost rather never play them again, simply so I never have to read their fans' babbling regarding SBU and the rest of the A-10. Their massive egos regarding their program is probably shielding a legit inferiority complex. The lop-sided all-time record between SBU and SC (something like 28-5 in favor of SBU) is never enough for them. You must not have heard, LumsdnA10Academc98, Siena is the next Gonzaga! Their "great facilities" and "large fan base" has them knocking down George Mason's door, too. Ahhh yes... I forgot the part about Siena not existing if SBU hadn't laid the groundwork for them to sprout from the Loudenville soil. Hazah, MAAC!

Why does everyone beat up on our sister college Siena? I am aBona alumni and have a few friends that graduated from there in the 80's. From what I understand maybe Bonaventure should be taking some notes and finding out how Siena does everything right and we do everthing wrong. They have always had a fransican friar as a President of the school and 98% of those presidents are Bona grads! Academically Siena has a major waiting list to get into the school. Their very competitive plus in their admissions. their alumni donate alot more than our alumni and their campus is just as beautiful as ours. So why is Siena so much more successful than Bonas? They have any scandals and their basketball program isn't bad either.

Sorry, donniesbu, I didn't realize the universal benchmarks of a prestigous institution were waiting lists and alumnus who donate money. Perhaps Siena is a nice place. However, you're yet to explain why Siena is "so much more successful than Bona's." Also, our last two presidents have been Franciscans, just as every president for the forseeable future will be, and the only difference basketball-wise is that we have a reason for being bad for the last four years. I, too, have had the misfortune of reading the Siena board, SirElton, and I've done so more than I'd like to admit. I'm aware that the Saints are right where Kent State was just before it blew up on the national scene in 2000 and also that Siena has lost 25 of 32 meetings with Bona's. In fact, of schools never to share a conference affiliation with us, only CC, NU & SF (Pa.) have played us more. Nothing I've said should trigger a verbal riot, and if it did, I wouldn't care. We're down for a reason. Siena? Not sure why.

An addendum to the above post regarding the schedule. Seems like we have 16 A10 games, plus 2 in the Coaches vs. Cancer event. The non-conference schedule appears to be: at Syracuse, Niagara, at Canisius (HSBC Arena), at St. Francis (Pa.), at Central Connecticut, and at Cleveland State (the first of a two-year deal). That leaves 3 games, at least 2 of which will be in the Reilly Center. We'll see what transpires....TM
