Which assistant coach would you prefer?
If we hire Charles Cunningham, we'd likely get Hernol Hall. If we hire Mike MacDonald, maybe Cory Magee would follow.

Cunningham has the better credentials. Hernol Hall is clearly the more talented basketball player, being rated the 4th best JUCO in the country. Hernol canceled rest of his visits, because of his close relationship to Cunningham.

Don't think that either player would be released and then allowed to sign with the Bonnies. When a player is released, the team he is signed with can put on conditions that he not sign with specific teams. When the players were released from Siena last season after Rob Lanier's dismissal, the team specifically said that they could not sign with any other MAAC teams. Can't see Duquesne allowing Hall to sign with any other A-10 team.

Yes, a better question might be the combo of Cunningham & Hall versus MacDonald and Magee, which really makes this a no-brainer.
Cunningham, in addition to being an outstanding recruiter, is a veteran coach whose credentials command respect, which our staff received none of last year. What was worse, to me, than a second consecutive season featuring a 10-plus game losing streak was the disrespect our players had for their coaches. Having spent the past five seasons with notorious disciplinarian Danny Nee, I trust that Cunningham is a no-nonsese guy whose experiences alone get the respect of his players. Though the most of the headcases and the JVBK recruits are now old news, if a team refuses to buy in to what a guy who's been to a Final Four and won a NIT in the last decade is selling,...
Mike MacDonald is also a turncoat pannywaste who sold his soul to the devil years ago. He comes bearing an average PF; Cunningham has a 6-10 JUCO All-American by his side.

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but is there any reason to believe that Cunningham has any intrest in Bonaventure. Im sure if he is as good as some people here believe he will have some much better offers on the table.

Debbie Downer... wah wah wahhhhhhhhhh.
I, too, am curious if this is purely speculation. Is Cunningham even on our radar as Gee's replacement?

MacDonald was fired over a month ago and canisus has already replaced him. I have seen nothing to indicate that either MacDonald or Cunningham are even intersted in the assistant's job.So is there any real story here or is it all speculation?

I guess it comes down to Corey McGhee or Hernol Hall if you continue the discussion on MacDonald vs Cunningham. Each player brings a different dynamic, Corey as a frosh would probably back-up Lee at the 4....and would eventually become our 4. If Hall came here, he would start immediately and cause PW to become the 4, Lee to the 3, and would make us a better team in 06/07. I'd take Hall, but are we on his radar?

I do not think it is a case of choosing between Hall or Magee. With the loss of Jayson Gee, Solomon's staff is lacking an experienced assistant coach. Cunningham with 30 years of coaching experience, would add some much needed experience. Add his proven success as a recruiter, he appears to be a more qualified candidate than MacDonald. Cunningham certainly develops a close relationship with his players, as another Duquesne player (Chauncey Duke) is leaving, because of Cunningham's release. Chauncey Duke leaving Duquesne. www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/sports/college/s_440711.html

I've heard they probably will not hire a replacement for Gee. Each coach will move up one slot in the pecking order, and that will be it.
But I suppose if the right person comes along at the right price (key), you never know.

I would hope they at least add a Grad asst. to do the film breakdown etc... a PVP or Tim Winn would be great options

Without question both these candidates are NOT in the running for the Bonas opening. John Brannen is the new associate head coach and the next staff member WILL be an African-American. -- TM

I voted for Charles Cunningham. I haven't seen him since the end of the first season of Happy Days. Long lost brother Chuck... whatever happened to him? He gave Richie a basketball for Christmas and then went off to college, never to be seen again.
