A five year social work program that culminates with an MSW degree. It typically takes 6 years to earn an MSW. The 5 year option is very attractive to prospective students.

I know some people with MSW that do great work. They attended state schools for graduate study and anytime I have ever heard discussions of MSW I have always heard the talk be about the low salaries that MSW typically provide and how it is best to attend a lot cost school. Shaving a year off can help with the costs but I am not sure if SBU will be competitive when you consider the practical hours that are required to gain experience which typically make a urban setting the better place to be for the graduate studies. Maybe if Hilbert was the location of a program...

It's my observation that most MSW's are earned by folks already working in the field with the tuition partly reimbursed by the employer. And yes....because of the typically low social work $$ compensation..... it makes more economic sense for a person to obtain the MSW degree at a modestly priced public university.

If you think it is hard to recruit now it would be immeasurably more difficult if we were D2. To say it is a dumb idea is a tremendous understatement.

It appears the OTH built the drama with the first installment, and have now followed it up with some more balance. I, personally, agree with the notion of the basketball program being an asset when it comes to name recognition and perception of the school. I know from personal experience of telling people from parts of the country no where near New York that I went to SBU and 1) having them recognize the school, and 2) be amazed when I tell them its actual size (I've heard "I always thought it was a lot bigger" more than once). And I have never heard St. Basketball once. Now, with regards to Sr. Margaret's comments on the Middle States evaluation. Getting that word out is on her and the rest of the administration. I hope there was a press release or some vehicle to get that into regional news outlets. Of course, ESPN doesn't cover that, and academic journals don't give much coverage to sports teams either. At a minimum, we need to leverage the media resources the school has produced to tout these things.

And NOTHING would hurt recruiting more than goofballs on this board speculating about a move to D2 thats never gonna happen. What is the gang thinking when they write such garbage for prospective recruits and parents to read? DUMB

The last couple of weeks has been like being forced to watch ESPN's First Take in a darkened room with the sound turned up listening to Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless make up stories each day and then argue about it. It has been mind numbing. When does the first practice start? What's next? The administration coming up with a rule where the male students have to leave their ID with the RD before they can visit a female student?

The "powers at be" as one poster chose to characterize "them" never, for a moment, considered a move by the University's athletic program to Dll.
That's an absolute fact. Period. End of story. I have it on good authority. The OTH is only interested in selling papers. Admittedly, I didn't read the piece. If it insinuated in any way shape or form that consideration was given to a move down to Dll, it was completely off base - as it has been in the past and always will be on a whole bunch of topics.
All this talk about something that has no basis in fact doesn't do a bit of good - and as some posters have pointed out, it probably scares the hell out of recruits who have the option to play with other Dl programs.
