Here is the best bet, I won this same bet on/at the Preakness. I won $489.
Because there are only 8 horses in the field:
On a trifecta Box:
Bet American Phar. to win and then wheel the field. Hope the long shots come in 2nd and 3rd. Take home big cash. American Phar doesn't win-you lose. Bet should be about $110

Best tip I ever got was from an old time bartender back in the Bronx - "Hey kid don't bet the horses"! ?

If Pharoah wins the Triple Crown, will they correct the spelling error in his name or will future generations be condemned to puzzling over how such an error went uncorrected?

Okay, it is the third jewel, can American Pharaoh break the 37 year drought of a Triple Crown winner?
I have seen several of the other possible Triple Crown winners stumble at the Belmont Stakes but this year, I think it will be different. Sure the odds are against it, but I'm betting on it.
American Pharaoh has a confusing pedigree. A quick look indicates he couldn't go a 1 1/4 miles, but he wins the Kentucky Derby. So, dig deeper. If you look into the pedigree, the sire line of Pioneerof the Nile, Empire Maker and Unbridled say he can get the distance. But on the mare's side it indicates speed and sprinting. The mare's sire is Yankee Gentleman, coincidentally also the 'father' of Royal Bonnie, Bona Venture Stables' first Breeders' Cup Championship runner in the 2011 Juvenile Fillies Turf. She could go a distance and she proved it in all of her career runs, albeit cut short by an injury. Okay, I'll give him the benefit, he can go the distance.
If he can avoid an early speed dual with Materiality he wins. That's my thinking.
But which horse can upset? Well, most of them. Ha. My money says Mubtaahij. He tired in the Derby but I think he was bothered by the travel from Dubai, the new surroundings, three hard, long races before the Derby. He's had five weeks since the Derby to recover and recharge and he's training well at Belmont. His pedigree says he can run all day and he'll love the longer distance, the wide turns and when he gets a look at that long, long stretch run he'll be rolling thunder down that lane!
This is the best shot at an upset.
Next is Tale of Verve. The pedigree says the further he runs, the better. And Dallas Stewart (trainer) is a friend of mine and I can't forget that he has a knack for bringing long shots in in these classic races. That was a strong finish in the Preakness.
Last, Keen Ice. He's training well and has been targeted for this race. The pedigree can go the distance. He comes from Curlin who relished a distance. Curlin also sired Palace Malice, who won the 2013 Belmont Stakes.
The final is Frosted. The pedigree indicates he'll take to the distance, but I'm not convinced. Look at this one carefully.
Okay, my bets: I will drop $50 on American Pharaoh to win and put him on top of a $10 trifecta of 5 over 1,2,7. That's American Pharaoh over Mubtaahij, Tale of Verve, and Keen Ice.
I'll also back up with Mubtaahij as a spoiler and put him on top of the others in a trifecta as well.
Good luck.

Great split screen video of the two legends. Amazing how Secretariat was never challenged after half way through the race & yet holds the all time record at Belmont. Almost 3 secs faster than American Pharaoh. Amazing horses.

Unbelievable really that Secretariat would have beat American Pharaoh by about 13 lengths. I'm only in my 30's so I was never able to see Mickey Mantle hit the freeze at Yankee Stadium but Secretariat's performance at the Belmont is the most impressive achievement by an individual I have ever seen in sports.

Best tip I ever got was from an old time bartender back in the Bronx - "Hey kid don't bet the horses"! ? The first, and last, bet I made was at Agua Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana in '64. The horse I bet on somehow ran through the inside rail shortly after coming out of the gate. It was injured so badly they put a screen around it & euthanized it on the infield between races!!

"Big Red" was a beast! Also, Bob Beamon breaking the WR for the Long Jump at the '68 Olympics by more than two feet was determined to be nearly impossible by "Research Quarterly"!

"Pace makes the race." American Pharoah ran nearly identical quarter mile splits over the entire race. Secretariat was forced to run at a blistering pace when challenged early. His final quarter was actually about 2 seconds slower than Pharoah's.
I was impressed with how easily American Pharoah appeared to run throughout the entire race. The splits only confirm what I saw.

Doesn't matter - opening speed, finishing speed whatever, American Pharoah is a great horse but Big Red's Belmont spanked the "egyptians" Belmont big time!!!
