The 11'0 Clock news just reported that SBU and Gothard reached an undisclosed agreement?!
I LOVE Bonas but I hope they gave Gothard a good settlement.
Everyone thinks he was so bad for not purchasing a home here and having his wife move to the area but WHERE DOES RON Z's WIFE LIVE? not in Allegany with her husband!
Enjoy your money Gothard -- you deserve it - the world needs more whistle blowers

I agree and disagree, on one hand Gothard tried to do what was right and report the problem to the right people but on the other hand once he realized that the "right" people were in midst of everything he failed to go the NCAA and put an immediate stop to it. I sympathize with him and think he did mostly of what was right but I also see that there was more he could have done.

Let's just say that he tried to do the best he could under the circumstances. He should receive something by way of a settlement. I hope that it is not exorbitant and hurtful to SBU but enough to give him a good start elsewhere

I agree - Gothard deserved to be treated better by SBU after the torture he endured from Wick over the last year of his tenure.
A shame he had to wait 3 years for a settlement - while Wick walked away with a golden parachute and chance for his son to resign instead of being fired - which he should have been.
Gothard is 100 times the man Wick and his son are. Just look at the trouble Kort has gotten into since he has left SBU! I am still waiting for the opportunity to see Wick in public in Olean.

I am still waiting for the opportunity to see Wick in public in Olean. Why? You gonna beat him up? You gonna yell something at him?

I wish Gothard the best in the future. How many of us would take on our boss so directly as Lane did and then go over the head of your boss to the Chairman of the Board of your company. In the real world, that it not a real smart thing to do, you jump over your boss, you lose your job. Of course, if the Board had listened, nothing would have happen.

You guys are making Gothard Lane sound like a saint! He might not have been as guilty as others involved in the scandal like Wick and JvBK, but he certainly didn't do everything he should have with the knowledge he had. He doesn't deserve much based on that alone. He could have saved this university a lot of pain and suffering by doing what he knew in his heart he should have done.

From the OTH
ST. BONAVENTURE — Former St. Bonaventure University Athletic Director Gothard Lane and the university have reached an amicable settlement of the lawsuit filed by Mr. Lane in federal court in Buffalo, with the assistance of United States Magistrate Judge Victor Bianchini of San Diego, Calif.
The suit will be dismissed upon satisfaction of the terms of the settlement, and the cost to the university associated with the settlement will be borne by an insurance carrier, said officials.
In connection with the settlement, the university acknowledges that the NCAA Committee on Infractions did not make any findings or impose any penalties against Mr. Lane in its Feb. 19, 2004, St. Bonaventure University Public Infractions Report.
The settlement comes about because of Mr. Lane’s lawsuit following his dismissal as a result of the eligibility scandal involving former player Jamil Terrell. Mr. Lane was the director of athletics at the time.
It was agreed that the terms of the settlement are to remain confidential, and neither party will comment upon specifics.
Mr. Lane stated, “I am delighted that the two sides have reached this resolution and I wish for St. Bonaventure and its athletics program every future success.”
“We are pleased to bring this matter to closure,” said Sister Margaret Carney, president of St. Bonaventure University. “I commend the officers of the university and our partners who worked so diligently to achieve the settlement.”
Charles Swanekamp, lead attorney for Mr. Lane, stated, “Gothard is very pleased with the outcome of this case and he is looking forward to continuing his ongoing work in college athletics.”
Michael Willett, counsel for the university, stated, “This is another step forward for the university and we are very pleased with the manner in which this case was resolved. The university wishes Mr. Lane success in his future ventures.”

From CBS Sportline:
It is also on ESPN and USAToday websites. I hate reading JVBK name in the article and that two university trustees did nothing to stop the problem before it got starting. Who was the other trustee (Swan & ?) who failed to act. He is still on the board? If Wick, Swan and another trustee wouldn't act, why are we blaming Lane. If the leader of the university's administration and board of trustees wouldn't act, whose fault was it? It also looks like Bona has admitted that Lane did nothing wrong based on the NCAA's report.
*********************************************************************
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -St. Bonaventure University and its former athletic director, Gothard Lane, have agreed to settle the lawsuit by Lane that claimed the university of damaging his reputation after a 2003 basketball scandal.
Terms of the confidential settlement were not disclosed.
"Gothard is very pleased with the outcome of this case and he is looking forward to continuing his ongoing work in college athletics," Lane's attorney, Charles Swanekamp, said in a statement late Friday.
Lane, now director of championships for the Eastern College Athletic Conference, sued in April 2004, accusing St. Bonaventure officials of maliciously damaging his reputation through comments to the media and in a review committee's report on the scandal.
The Atlantic 10 Conference in March 2003 sanctioned the Bonnies men's basketball program for using junior forward Jamil Terrell, who was ruled ineligible for failing to meet NCAA junior college transfer guidelines.
Later that month, the school's trustees accepted the resignation of university president Robert Wickenheiser, who accepted responsibility for approving Terrell's transfer, and placed Lane and then-coach Jan van Breda Kolff on administrative leave.
Lane's tenure at the school ended in May after he was informed that his contract, worth nearly $100,000 a year, would not be renewed.
In suing the school, Lane said that his repeated warnings about Terrell's status to Wickenheiser and two trustees before the 2002-03 season were ignored and that he became a scapegoat for the scandal.
"In connection with the settlement, the university acknowledges that the NCAA Committee on Infractions did not make any findings or impose any penalties against Mr. Lane in its Feb. 19, 2004, St. Bonaventure Public Infractions Report," a statement from St. Bonaventure said.
Van Breda Kolff settled a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against the university in April 2005.

I am still waiting for the opportunity to see Wick in public in Olean. Why? You gonna beat him up? You gonna yell something at him? Oh, I'd totally say something to him. Ten years ago, I sent Dr. Wickenheiser a letter regarding the treatment of Garret Theatre. I had graduated at that time, but still had strong ties through Dr. Gray-Lewis, who was and is a close family friend (in fact, he did a reading at my wedding). It was a point-by-point letter, very organized, very professional, but in essence criticizing the way the staff at the Quick Arts Center treated Garret. The letter I received from Wickenheiser was incredibly rude and condecending. Lines such as "You will never get anywhere at anytime talking to people the way you talk to me" (again, I was extremely professional and polite, merely pointing out the facts instead of, say, calling Wickenheiser a douchebag) and "those who threaten the most give the least" (I merely stated that I would consider withholding future donations). Wickenheiser behaved more like the president of a 2nd grade class than president of a university. People never believed me for years and always defended him, but in the end I ended up being right, though I take no pleasure from it. I did, however, take pleasure from watching him publicly evicerated and humiliated, mainly because I'm a pretty vindictive son of a bitch.
