just read a very interesting piece at sbu.edu re joan licursi, sbu class of '65...joan went to bonas back in the day when the women did not live on campus (they lived across the street at st elizabeth motherhouse)...she was a hard-working journalism major who credits bonas and the late dr jandoli with getting her started on a successful career...what i found interesting in the article was how she noted that women were not allowed in the student senate back then...that made me think how much things had changed in the short while from when joan graduated to when i started as a frosh 5 years later...by that time women were living on campus and were allowed to be in the student senate...as a matter of fact, the vp of the student senate at the time i entered bonas was a gal whose name was mary engel, i believe...she was as smart as a whip...i remember going to open meetings of the student senate back then and remember how impressed i was with her skills in debating her point of view...this is my usual long-winded way of thanking people like joan licursi and mary engel and all the others who made their mark at bonas before and during my first days there that made it possible for me and many other bonnies to have the experience that we did (and still continue to have) at bonas...

She married my roommate (who was a transfer student from NJ), Bob Licursi. Her maiden name was Joan Roeben, also the class of '65.
