I'm sorry, but you just can't have a wing that is this handicapped offensively in your starting lineup. I could understand if he was our version of Tony Allen, but he's not.
Anyone else see this as an issue? Here's his game log thus far:
Tonight
25 minutes 1 shot attempt 2 points 4 rebounds 1 assist
Vs Canisius
19 minutes 0 shot attempts 4 rebounds 1 assist
Vs Loyola
31 minutes 5 shot attempts 6 points 3 rebounds 3 assists
Vs Syracuse
29 minutes 4 shot attempts 5 points 4 rebounds
Vs Bing
20 minutes 1 shot attempt 1 point 3 rebounds 1 assist

An issue no question. Schmidt's hands are almost tied unless you want him to go with Nelson K. most of the game...which I think you will see before long. www.thebonablog.com

He's their best perimeter defender. When he got hurt in the second half we had No answer for Green's drives. This criticism is unwarranted IMO.
I love Kaputo but he's not the defender Taqque is and the team can get out of control with him in Instead.
I think you keep the rotation how it is. If this team was struggling with scoring - losing games in the 40s or 50s- I would possibly agree with you but they aren't. With scorers like Posely, Wright, and Adams you can afford to keep a defensive stopper on the court. Work Kaputo in when you need scores. Schmidt has the rotation working well IMO

Scoring isn't the problem with this team. We are a bit undersized and seem lost at times on the defensive end.

Let's list his alternatives to Mr. Taqqee: Nelson Kaputo That's how. I just wrote a little more about this topic in my 5 thoughts from the game which I'll post tomorrow. But if you don't think Schmidt wishes he had a Stockard or Mobley or someone else able to give him back-court minutes off the bench this season you're crazy. I'm sure Taqqee is playing his tail off and YES he does do some things well (rebounds and defends) the bottom line is starting him and giving him so much time in a backcourt when he's so limited offensively (and so is your "center") is incredibly limiting from an offensive standpoint. Opposing coaches literally do not worry at all about 2/5 starters...that's a problem. www.thebonablog.com

Sorry but recruiting is part of coaching - not doing it properly results in no post season- again

Idris was the only one able to somewhat cover and limit Green, if he wasn't playing defense like he was in the 1st half, we might not of had that lead going into intermission.. Todays performance, imo, lands on Wrights inability to play without getting quick fouls, and then when coming back in, staying focused (maybe today was just a one game occurrence). When we were able to get it down low, we missed point blank lay ups, and you can't get away with that.. And Posley settling for 3's in the second half killed us too, we need him to drive to the bucket, like he did the last two games (like Adams tried to do) and get those fouls, and those crucial points).. All in all, we got away from what works for us, in the 2nd half, and it cost us the game, a game that would of looked really good in the win column come March..

We had a wing. He's currently out for the year with an injury. There's a reason that the guy who should be 8th man doesn't fill the stat sheet.

We don't need Taqqee for offensive stats. Take a look at Juan'ya Green's first half production when defended by Taqqee and his second half production (and final score) after Taqqee got hurt. IMHO, we need Taqqee in the lineup for his defense.

Taqqee played 17 minutes in the 1st half, and a limited 8 minutes in the 2nd due to his injury. Hofstra's Green played 18 minutes in the 1st half, going 1-5 from the field, scoring 3 points with 4 assists. Hofstra went 11-30 (36.7%) and scored 37 points. In the second, Green played 20 minutes and scored 18 points, going 5-10 from the field with 5 assists. Hofstra scored 52 points, going 16-30 from the field (53.3%).
We don't need points from Taqqee. We need him to limit the offense from the other team.

IMHO, we need Taqqee in the lineup for his defense. I agree. Thanks for saving me keystrokes. Also, Coach Schmidt screwed up by recruiting Stockard. He should have KNOWN he would get hurt, because good coaches just know these things. Maybe they should have given Stockard a full body bone scan during the recruiting visit to look for weakness in his bone structure. Too bad we aren't Kentucky, who has the luxury of being able to over recruit at every position. We did not play our best, and yet we got good looks and many, many shots went in and out. This team needs to shoot well. We all know that. We miss Ndoye defensively , and Cumberbatch too. Cumberbatch had a good wingspan for matches on bigger guards. Oh, and Kaputo looked like a freshman against the 1-3-1. That hurt, but he will learn.
