it appears that the rumors regarding the departure of John B....the Bonnies' top assistant ...are true. Now there's just Sol......makes you wonder what's up although it could just be a matter of coincidence. Jason, it appears, left for legitimate family reasons and Brannon evidently has a great new gig.....but who's going to coach? Who's going to work with the big men? And what does it do to recruiting...to the high school juniors, etc we've been cultivating? Should we worry that the exodus may be an indication that the assistants did not believe there was much worth hanging around for? Whatever the reasons, however coincidental, it's not a positive development. The prospect of a raft of newcomers...who'll probably be such that they'll need "on the job training" is not something we should have to endure....right about now, I'm all for bringing Mike McDonald in as the top assistant....who the heck is left at SBU to coach?? This is a bit of a bummer.

Bring in MacDonald now! That move should have been made when it was first learned that Gee was departing.

We should make an offer to Mike MacDonald right away. He is a person of unquestionable character and a fine basketball coach. I believe he'd be able to work well with Coach Soloman. For the second opening how about a former player. Rob Blackwell has HS coaching experience. I think, that he is slated to coach the Western team in the Empire State Games which will further broaden his contacts with the high school coaches around the state. Others have mentioned Tim Winn. I would throw PVP or Kevin Houston out there as well. Robert Cheeks is another obvious suggestion.

Mike MacDonald and Tim Winn would make a fine combination. So what're you waiting for Coach Solomon?

Maybe we could just get the entire starting lineup from 99-00 to come in as assistants. Who cares if they have any coaching experience. MacDonald wouldn't be terrible as an assistant because he brings something other than a Bona diploma to the table. One would hope, however, that Solomon has some basketball people he would be comfortable with and can bring in. The obvious drawback to MacDonald is that the people on this board would start calling for him to replace Solomon about 3 games into the season even though he was never successful at a MAAC school.

Lanier wasn't successful at a MAAC school either but the Jimmy Midnight fan club would welcome him with open arms because he is an alum.

Winn would go nowhere near MacDonald. After Tim committed to SBU, MacDonald cut him from the Western Team for the Empire State Games to get even with him for not going to Canisius.
Winn should not be a coach at SBU - after some of the things he did on campus.
MacDonald is not a college coach, or a nice person.

Maybe we could bring in some JUCO or transfer coaches that have 1 to 2 years eligibility left.
I feel and have felt that our situation in untenable. We will continue to be attacked by the media, the alumni, the basketball fans and opposing coaches.
We have been weakened beyond many of your wildest nightmares by the scandal and have dire predictions that we are another 4-5 perhaps 6 more years away from becoming competitive on a day in/day out basis in the league , should we still be a A-10 participant in that time frame.
Here's the thing to remember. Whether you choose to blame the Wicks & JVBK or Gothard and Barb Hick, the situation we are in today would be largely unchanged give that Jamil still played the games during that season.
Anthony serves St. Bonaventure well but I feel that anything less than a winning season, that's correct a winning season will cost him his job.
That's a tall order for him but he should be proud of the time he spent at Bonas and trust me we will burn through at least one more coach before some sense of stability is brought back to SBU Basketball.
A lot of you are incredulous that we can not bring in at least one top 4 year recruit per year.
What top recruit wants to come to a program that has not had double digit wins in 4+ years, has a head coach in the crosshairs and assistant coaches fleeing the sinking ship?
As a matter of fact we talk of student enrollment being down. What student that is a basketball fan to boot wants to lock in for four years at such a school?
Bonas still has a long tough road ahead of them and fans will be jumping off the Bandwagon in droves. The University and the basketball team need your support but I still feel that 2012 is the year when we can expect a healed basketball program.
That's a long friggin ways off.

If 2012 is the timeline for this program to turnaround, might as well play the home games in Butler Gym
