Luhn promoted; Brannen and McClure to leave
April 29, 2006
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure men's basketball coach Anthony Solomon today announced several changes to his coaching staff.
Solomon first announced that Jake Luhn has been promoted from director of basketball operations to assistant coach.
Solomon also announced that assistant coaches John Brannen and Cory McClure have left the program. Friday, Brannen accepted a similar position at Virginia Commonwealth University. McClure is expected to take a job outside of coaching closer to his native state of Maine.
Brannen was a member of Solomon's staff since 2003 while McClure was on the staff for two seasons. Luhn also has been on the staff since 2003.
"Jake Luhn has been an invaluable member of our staff for the last three years and he is certainly deserving of this promotion," Solomon said. "He is a fine young coach with a bright future. With his work ethic and talents, I expect Jake will continue to help us build this program the way he has over the last three years."
"Next, I want to express my appreciation to John Brannen and Cory McClure for the contributions they both made to St. Bonaventure University and our basketball program over their time here. They helped set the foundation for future success, primarily through their recruiting, mentoring and development of young men," Solomon continued. "We are in a much better position as a program than we were three years ago and that is a testament to the hard work of John, Jake, Cory and Jayson (Gee). We will move quickly to fill the openings on the staff, but at the same time I will be certain we hire coaches who are a proper fit for our program and our University at this time."
Earlier this month, associate head coach Jayson Gee left St. Bonaventure to take a similar position at Cleveland State.
Next season, St. Bonaventure will return eight letterwinners led by forwards Michael Lee and Paul Williams and guards Tyler Relph, Terron Diggs and A.J. Hawkins. Solomon has signed four new players - forward Jourdan Morris and guards Jermaine Calvin, Zarryon Fereti and James Williams -- with one scholarship still to be filled.
