The Board:
The dynamics of poster interaction on the Bandwagon are similar to boards throughout the land. The anonymity of sitting at a keyboard often lead to comments that would not be made to the same person sitting next to you on a barstool at The Burton. A face to face discussion on matters of disagreement are usually tempered by language that does not cause a roundhouse right knocking you off your stool. Sitting at the computer communicating with others you may not even know, never shook hands with and can’t look in the eye is so impersonal. It’s all a matter of characters being inputed onto a screen. But we must be are aware that these comments can be hurtful and there are many instances that such posts appear to have no other value but to strike out at someone with key strokes. Of course I’m not speaking about heated disagreement over game strategy, substitution patterns, scheduling, coach selection, switching conferences, whatever. Such battling of varying opinions makes for a good board. However, when we allow the safety, impersonal nature & often anonymous aspect of the keyboard to go beyond the bounds of Franciscan values we detract from the quality of the Bandwagon & more importantly diminish our own character.
On Coach Solomon:
When Bobby Gonzalez left MC for Seton Hall recently he made a point about how much busier a coach’s work day is when the season is over. Every coach knows this. Sol has more than his hands full without his 3 assistants carrying out their responsibilities. Add to his overflowing plate the need to get his final ship filled and attracting and signing assistants that make a good fit. Some may see new assistants as an improvement, especially the many posters who have severely criticized the X’s & O’s of Sol & staff. Bona needs the support of loyal fans more than ever. Go Bonnies!
