Southern Union State and Lake Region Community College are no So. Idaho nor Monroe JC -- schools that particpated in the NCAA equivalent JUCO tourney.
Were the former schools there? No, because they didn't have as much talent with whom to share the stats.

This from a recruiting site.......(not my opinion) We also have confirmed that St. Bonaventure has beaten out schools like Dayton, UC-Santa Barbara, Denver, and Oregon for 6'8 Lounceny Kaba from Monroe (JC) NY. We're talking about an athletic power forward who rebounds and blocks shots and played great in the National Junior College Tournament in Hutchinson, KS two months ago. Kaba also should be an excellent complement to all of the perimeter players - 6'5 James Williams from Cloud County (JC) KS, 6'6 Jourdan Morris from Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt) MD, 5'10 Jermaine Calvin from Southern Idaho (JC) ID, and 6'5 Zarryan Fereti from Southern Idaho (JC) ID - that the Bonnies already have in the fold. However, even more important, at 6'8, 250-pounds, Kaba should provide the physical presence that St. Bonaventure needs inside, if they want to make a dramatic improvement next season. The above information is from Hoopscoop. With the addition of Kaba, Hoopscoop now have the Bonnies tied with the 41st best recruiting class in the nation. It is slightly better than last year's rankings where they had the Bonnies tied with the 47th best class. 43. ST. BONAVENTURE (18 Points)..........5 Recruits..........3.6 Talent Rating Average Per Recruit..........Atlantic-10 Conference..........(6) James Williams, 6'5, 2G, Cloud County (JC) KS; (3) Jourdan Morris, 6'6, WF, Greenbelt (Eleanor Roosevelt) MD; (3) Jermaine Calvin, 5'10, PG, Southern Idaho (JC) ID; (3) Zarryan Fereti, 6'5, WF, Southern Idaho (JC) ID; (3) Lounceny Kaba, 6'8, PF, Monroe (JC) KS. By the way Hoopscoop has Duquesne tied with Lamar for the 10th best recruiting class. Lamar has the 10th best recruiting class in the nation? Another curious ranking is Stonybrook tied with national champ Florida for 28th place. James Williams talent rating of 6 from Hoopscoop is the highest rating I've seen given to a Solomon recruit. Is James Williams the star player of this recruiting class? Hoopscoop 2006 rankings www.hoopscooponline.com/members/toprecruitingclassestodatefortheclassof200620072008.html

Interesting rankings but we all know that the way HoopScoop does its rankings that it rewards quantity over quality. Still I think this class will add needed depth at the 4/5 postion with Kaba and provide us with a quality point guard in Calvin. I see Lee and Williams at the 4 and 5 positions with Kaba getting quality minutes. Calvin at the point. The competition at the 3 and 4 positions should be intense. Relph, Fereti, Williams, and Hawkins are likely to get the most minutes. Not sure there will be many minutes left for Benson or Morris. This team has portential and if the schedule mirrors last years OOC schedule, there should be more wins. Was nice to see St. Franics(NY) rated highly in the HoopScoop rankings. Was pulling for Brian Nash to get the Bonaventure position 4 years ago. Like Sol, he has done a good recruiting job at St. Francis but his team was disappointing on the court in his first year.

Relph, Fereti, Williams, and Hawkins are likely to get the most minutes. Not sure there will be many minutes left for Benson or Morris. That is exactly what I was thinking, that there will be lots of competition for minutes. Low Post - will Kaba or even Ivan be able to get some significant minutes here either as a back up or even quality rotation minutes based on productivity....even giving enough so to move MLee over to SF? SF - who are the true shooting or small forwards on this team that have the size & strength to rebound & defend the position? If Morris and/or Benson are not up to the task then we will be undersized there again. This is a glaring hole since MLee is an undersized PF. SG or Wing - Is Williams the favorite? can AJ Hawkins develop a consisent outside shot to keep himself on the floor? Is Zereti the darkhorse that shouldn't be underestimated? If Relph can't get minutes at the point, can we afford to be undersized at another position? Will he become our "designated shooter"? Point Guard- is it really Calvin's job to lose? Is TRelph's best opportunity to make something happen here? Who will be the biggest surprise of this 2006-2007 team? Good arguments for many candidates!

Hey Phantom (our guy) Solomon has accomplished a lot in the last 5 weeks too but its incredible how you continuously refuse to extend any credit but practically have Duquesne in the Final 4 without having seen one of their recruits ever dribble a basketball........but it seems that the Dukes signings might make Sol look bad therefore the signings are great !?? Is this the thought process??? Why do you extend the 'glass is half full ' with the dukes...but we are always empty... However, even more important, at 6'8, 250-pounds, Kaba should provide the physical presence that St. Bonaventure needs inside, if they want to make a dramatic improvement next season. I am not sure exactly what coach has done in the past 5 weeks other than sign Kaba and lose his entire coaching staff. I have nothing against the coach, just a bit envious of Duquesne's recruiting success. HoopScoop has them tied for 10th nationally and us 43rd. For what it is worth. Also I am not sure where I ever stated that Duquesne was going to be in the Final 4. I am impressed with what they have been able to do in a short time! I am basing my (opinion), on some of the stats from the same recruiting information, that you want to use to support your case. Just like you, I have never seen any of them dribble a basketball either! So with that how can you be so confident that they will be that much of an impact? I am just expressing an opinion, (believe it or not, I hope I am wrong) so I dont unsderstand why you react so strongly?!

It would be great to be consistent,,,you do not see Sols recruits so you give great skepticism....but you do not see Duquesne's and yet you have great optimism... by the way...you said it all in that in the last 5 weeks all you saw Sol sign Kaba and lose 3 assistants.... Funny you leave out the 2 quality juco signings from CSI ....and did it occur to you one of those asst coaches may have been released?? If you have a 'i'll believe it when I see it" attitude towards unseen recruits...I'd expect it to be consistent....otherwise it looks like an obvious slant against Sol & SBU...and yes...Sol is SBU...

You are right I do not have a crystal ball, I just like the credentials of their recruits better than ours. Why do my humble opinions get you so upset?
Quality JUCO signings from CSI? What am I missing? One of those recruits claims he is still learning the game! At the A 10 level you better have the game figured out and then some!
Note Duquesne's latest recruit, those appear to be some nice numbers.
Once agian allow me to say, I hope I am wrong!

Phantom, is the glass half empty or half full? Depending on the way you answer this question will give you the quality of Sol's recruiting so far this year. If we are to march forward we must truly believe!!! That includes all of us. Way to much negativity on the board of late. Your opinion is certainly respected. I probably shouldn't have posted this message because pretty soon the NSA will be monitoring my opinions.

Yes very impressive numbers on this Duques prep player...can imagine your reaction if Sol signed a player with only these schools offering... Also regarding the CSI signings..did you omit the PG that was 1st team all state in Arizona...and playing on a juco team with 6 D1 players he was the one that won the MVP of their conference tournament???

Copenhagen, I see Hawkins/Morris/Williams competing for time at the three. I don't think any of these three can consistantly hit the three but they are all slashers which should put us at the foul line more often. The three spot is the key to next years fortunes.
I see Calvin, Fereti and Relph sharing the back court duties.

Basketball: Dukes get shot-block expert Monday, May 15, 2006
By Phil Axelrod, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Shawn James, a 6-foot-10 sophomore who is on pace to become the all-time shot-blocker in NCAA Division I history, plans to transfer from Northeastern to Duquesne.
"I don't know anything about Duquesne, but I want to play for my coach," said James, who will rejoin coach Ron Everhart at Duquesne. "He believed in me out of high school when nobody else did. I feel confident in him. I didn't see what he saw in me [three years ago.] He lets me play the way I can play basketball. He doesn't hinder my style."
James, who said he wants to enroll at Duquesne either May 29 or June 17 in time for a summer session, will sit out 2006-07 and have two seasons eligibility.
Everhart is prohibited by NCAA rules to talk about James until he officially enrolls at Duquesne.
James, who graduated from Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts and played two seasons for Everhart at Northeastern, averaged 12.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and blocked 196 shots as a sophomore. He was the defensive player of the year in the Colonial Athletic Association. The 196 blocks in 30 games are the second most for a season in Division I behind David Robinson's 207 in 35 games in 1985-86. James set an NCAA season record with an average of 6.53 per game, surpassing Colgate's Adonal Foyle, who averaged 6.43 in 1997. James already holds the school career record with 332 blocks.
"I'll put the ball on the floor, I can post up and I can shoot the 3," said James, who was 24 of 53 from beyond the arc this season. "I'm not great at anything ... except blocking shots. I have a knack for it."
James has grown 2 inches and added 20 pounds since high school.
"Sitting out a year definitely can be a help. I can work on my body," he said. "It will make me more hungry and make me a better player."
James is anxious to test his shot-blocking skills in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
"I hope the competition level is way higher because I want to see if I can compete at the next level," James said. "Duquesne will be a brand new situation for me. I want to enroll as soon as possible so I can get familiar with Pittsburgh and get familiar with Duquesne. I feel bad about leaving Northeastern and the friends I made there, but I have to do what's best for me. Will Coach win at Duquesne? Absolutely."
Everhart and his staff still are recruiting 6-10 Luis Colon of Miami who made a visit to Kansas State this weekend and could sign before the spring period ends Wednesday.
"I'm done recruiting players who could play for us next year," said Everhart, who hopes to soon resolve the status of 6-10 junior-college transfer Hernol Hall, who has asked to be released from the letter of intent he signed with Duquesne in the fall when Danny Nee was the coach.

If anyone really wants to base our recruiting class on hoopscoop don't look at the actual ranking of the team. Duquense was top ten because they signed 10 players who totaled 33 pts for an average of 3.3 per recruit. We signed 5 for a total of 18 pts an avg. of 3.6 per recruit. Duquense just lost their prize recruit in Hall. So they are now at 9 recruits for a total of 25 pts. an avg. of 2.8 per recruit. Actually we had one of the better averages per recruit out of the A10 schools.

Poop Scoop means nothing. Whoever this Everhart guy is, he can recruit. Granted, James followed him there, but if Everhart can coach a lick, Duquesne will be in the top half of the A-10 soon and for some time to come. If this guy shows up to an emaciated program that hasn't won in 20 years and draws this kind of talent, what's he going to get after they win 12+ this year? It's just frusterating to see Duquesne flip a switch and get talented recruits when winning more games leaves us reaching on JC's.
Also, I believe DUQ's latest stud is the older brother of former Bona recruit Lex James, who's now playing for Brian Nash at SF(NY). Lex hasn't done much for Brian, but his brother will be in the NBA in a few. Poor Northeastern fans.
