The perception that we have too many guards is false. We have three, and one of them is a senior. I'd be shocked if Welch doesn't slide into the wing role left by the loss of Taqqee and Brockington, and maybe even Stockard. Believe it or not we might also be looking at needing more wing players along with guards.
Also, just because they are looking at multiple guards does not mean they are going to sign all of them, nor does it mean they are not looking at forwards. So, relax and let it play out. The staff wants a balanced roster with positions and class years being roughly even.
As for Knight III, keep in mind that his stats are from his freshman season. Most JUCO players improve their numbers quite a bit in the second season. He was listed on a top 100 JUCO freshman watch list. He looks extremely athletic on video, and his 2 blocks per game for his size suggest the same. He only attempted 19 three pointers, so I don't think the 26 % is all that troubling. Obviously, he is not a shooter, but if he's a great athlete, and he's got three years left, maybe he's worth a look. Kloof wasn't much of an outside shooter, either.
Further, Knight was not the lead point guard on his team. Antonio Coward, who signed with Ohio, had six assists per game. So, wait for it, Knight is a combo guard! And believe it or not we have a need for that. We have two point guards and one combo guard. So, we either need another combo guard or a shooting guard.
All teams recruit multiple players at the same position. There are 13 freaking roster spots for 5 positions. And nowadays positions overlap considerably. Do.The.Math.

Exciting athlete. Love how he attacks the rim. Gets by his man with ease. Explosive.

Read this on the A10 board...
Dayton gets a 2018 commitment from 6' 8" Frankie Policelli, a 'stretch4' who played at Long Island Lutheran in NY. Policelli had been recruited by Illinois, Cincy, Texas Tech & Maryland previously.
We had offered him.....when we did he was well under-weight.....has grown, left upstate to attend a stronger program. I liked his game, sorry we now have to face him for the next 4 years.

Further down on Twitter (in recent game) could be seen this: Unsigned Sr 6’5 G Damian Miller @bucketboi15 goes bananas in Game 1 of King of my City: 8 3s made 38pts: Maybe the 3 point shooter Schmidt is looking for....

Anyone happen to know why don’t seem to be involved with Kaosi Ezeagu? 6’10 4 man from Canada. He just visited Western Michigan, certainly seems like a big we could use.
