Tim Personally thank people for all comments, but it seems more people are viewing this message. In response to the negative and positive comments please feel free to read the following.
We thank you for your input. We reflected on your comments, consulted with our lead sponsor and determined that though we don’t agree with your opinion, because we truly know who the Silverbacks are and what we are doing, it is understandable that others could also view this initiative as you did and we wouldn’t want that. In taking your advice and to kick off and lead the initiative, we are donating 150 season tickets, 50 to each initiative: The Winn Wagon, Modie’s Maniacs and Rut All-Stars, and a 25% discount previously in place to any business that chooses to support this effort.
On to your comments. Your use of the word “fluff” couldn’t be more further from the truth. The clinics are not basketball clinics, but life clinics. Do Your Best, Never Quit is not a ploy, but a real life philosophy which two of our participants use as the core rules in raising there OWN children. One for the past 16 years. It places the emphasis on the application of the input or effort one can apply to a situation rather than the win or loss, grade point average, etc. All individuals are not equal; one child may struggle to get a grade of a C while an A might come easy to another. The C student who gives his best effort should walk away from that effort feeling good about himself and not inferior. Wouldn’t you agree? To apply this situation to every challenge of our lives will assuredly lead to a more productive life. That is what we preach, if that’s fluff it’s great fluff.
Underprivileged. This philosophy does not apply to the underprivileged, privileged, black, white, old or young - BUT TO ALL - and children of all walks of life will receive these tickets, handed out by their school teacher as a reward when they exemplify this behavior and only then. It gives them something to shoot for and a way for us to assure that the Do Your Best, Never Quit message doesn’t fade after the clinic. A compliment from a player and some real life interaction we hope will go farther than a material gift. DeRon Rutledge is presently teaching a 13 year old how to read, and this, on his personal time. The Silverbacks may or may not survive in this city due to fiscal reasons, but we have agreed that while we are here, Buffalo will feel it and we will practice what we preach and do our best.
Thank you again and I hope we have given you a different perspective from which to view us.
