We always talk about how important it is to have a Bona guy run the show but these guys never showed any interest. Why don't our own people want to come back? Money? By the way, where has Fro been? Is he ill?

I can't believe no one has mentioned John Kendzior. 20+ years of service in Bonaventure Athletics, he runs the RC, is unofficial mayor of Olean and President of the Pulaski Club, has connections all over the country, respected by all and is everything Bonas. Every year he says the next year is his last, but dedication to the University keeps him going, he would not let us down.

By the way, where has Fro been? Is he ill? Phantom, Believe it or not, Fro got banned. He didn't violate any rules but the admin didn't like him. Guess calling it like you see it isn't allowed here. Fro still reads the board, but I'll tell him you asked about his status.

Do you really believe that Joe Quinlan would leave a Big East AD job for Bona? You must be drinking the Kool-aid. Also why would the last AD search committee chose Ron Z over McNamee? That would have been a slam dunk. The only reason that Ron Z was picked was that McNamee did not apply. No Big Wick then. And Bona really needed someone like Kevin. By the way, Steve Campbell would be great. Questa is good at her job but her people skills leave a lot to be desired.

I'd like to see Steve Campbell get the job. Please, please DON'T do the selection committee thing. Just offer him the gig with a decent salary. Do it sometime over the next month so that he has awhile to understudy Zwierlein before Zwierlein's departure.
Questa? Has the people skills of a dead battery. She does the technical part of the job OK but the AD position is a whole lot more than that. I suspect that Questa =Sneakers=DemBonnies.
Steve will be fair with Solomon. Basically bring in 12 - 15 wins this season and significantly improve on the X's and O's or adios. And at that level he shouldn't consider giving Solomon more than a 1 year contract extension. But no matter who the AD winds up being I believe that Solomon will be gone at the end of the 2007 season.

I hope any mention of Questra for the AD position is merely speculation on this board and that she really isn't being seriously being considered for the job. Quite Frankly (sorry Stephen A.) she should have immediately been fired after the JT scandal broke. It still amazes me that there wasn't more of an outcry for her termination during that period. Basically she didn't do her job then and now some are recommending the AD position for her?!?!

I think Brenda McGee-Snow, or Brenda Snow-Mcgee, or whatever name she's going by this week, should be the new AD. She controls EVEYTHING else at Bona's, might as well control athletics too.
They've already had to cut a couple of things of out the baseball field upgrade because they were going to go slightly over budget, and the Ice Queen gave them an emphatic NO when they asked for a few extra bucks.
And she's the MAIN reason Ron Z. is leaving, he simply got tired of fighting with her whenever a budget issue came up and she said NO to him time and time again.
Why fight with her when he is set in life and can retire and enjoy his grandkids. He would have gladly stayed on a couple more years but the constant battles were too much.
"Mrs. Snow, our basketball court is old and in extremely bad shape, and you know what a boon to this university that basketball is, do you think we could have $300,000 out of the $150 million the university has raised to replace the floor ? The investment would pay off many fold in the long run."
" NO !! Don't ask again ! Basketball gets nothing ! No sport gets anything, I don't care how many A-10 championships we win, or how many coaches-of-the-year we have, athletics gets nothing from me !"

Well, SBU has had such major financial difficulties in the past that it is important to have someone keep a close rein on the money. With enrollment being down this past year and with enrollment being one of the university's major revenue components it is not difficult to understand why "der Fuhrer" Brenda isn't coughing up. By the same token there needs to be some financial common sense. The fact is that the Reilly Center needs a $1,000,000 face lift to keep it going for the next 20 years. To me, that's an investment in a revenue generator rather than a straight expense. Anyone can say "No." It takes a skilled and savvy business manager to balance the books with a close eye on opportunity. "Der Fuhrer" doesn't seem to have that particular skill set. It is time to find someone who does. "Der Fuhrer" and Questa just need to go away. On another note, I'm certain that Mr. Reilly was a very dear man but his name needs to come off the field house and Verizon's or First Niagara's or ?? needs to be put on.......with significant upfront bucks to go to renovating the place and annual payments after that to go to the athletic program.

I hope any mention of Questra for the AD position is merely speculation on this board and that she really isn't being seriously being considered for the job. I can't tell you that, but, as one of the only people who believe she's at all suited for the job, any understanding of the current heiarchy will say she's the only person here that could be seriously considered. That's all I know. On another note, I'm certain that Mr. Reilly was a very dear man but his name needs to come off the field house and Verizon's or First Niagara's or ?? needs to be put on.......with significant upfront bucks to go to renovating the place and annual payments after that to go to the athletic program. Good idea. Why not Plassmann Academic Hall at HSBC Square? The AT&T Chapel at Doyle Hall has a nice ring to it. I'm sure Home Depot would love to put its name on a row of Townhouses. After all, that's how things work here, right? Lord have mercy. I can't think of anything this side of the ill-fated Adelphia logos that sadly once donned the RC base lines that could look tackier than a Verizon logo tattooed on the Reilly Center.

Questa is not the answer. I agree with "remus" that she should have been fired with everyone else involved in the scandal. She knew, she did nothing, she should have been gone. Steve Campbell is a great guy. He will be a long term AD because he loves the school and would not move on to somewhere else. It should be a slam dunk.

Oh c'mon.......no one is talking about putting corporate logos on the academic buidings, the librray or the chapel. A properly structured deal might not have any logos on the Reilly Center ......or logos of very a modest size and in architectural good taste (architectural gem that the Reilly Center is to begin with) . It's the critter's name repeatedly mentioned by the media that's the true advertising"money shot" in the transaction.
Look, if the ghost of Mike Reilly can bring SBU a bunch of desperately needed money by way of a building that's been sitting there for the last 40 years I'd say to go for it. But no one obviously thinks so. The naming thing is a no-brainer. It could be accomplished by the end of this year and renovations might begin by June 1, 2007. Wouldn't that be something awesome!

oleanhuskies, I don't know you, but you must travel in the same circles I do, because I heard virtually the exact same thing that you posted, at the St. Mary's picnic, and then again at the OHS reunion. Word gets around Olean quickly !
It's a shame that one person (Snow) can be so bitter and against athletics so much. Somebody somewhere along the line in athletics must have rubbed her the wrong way. What exactly is her title anyway, and how does she apparently weild so much power over the SBU pursestrings ? She is, after all, just ONE person, don't they have committees to decide such monetary expenditures ?
How can ONE person have such a stranglehold ?

Sister Margaret and the Board need to critically evaluate Ms. Snow's performance, provide her with clear direction and better monitor her activities. Post-Wick no one was supposed to have that much power ever again. Remember?
