Our namesake, Saint Bonaventure ran a very strong second in a mile in a starters allowance race at Monmouth Park last Saturday. He again fell far back for the first-half of the race and make a furious close down the stretch to make it another exciting finish, just missing the win! He now has two seconds and a first this summer at Monmouth and he's finished in the money 8 of his last 9 races. We will keep him at the allowance or better level, as we heard a number of other trainers express an interest in claiming him, if we drop him to that level! As long as he keeps running well, we'll plan to race him at Saratoga this August.
In the meantime, other Bona Venture Stables horses: our 2 year-old filly, Florida Quaker will make her first start this Thursday in the second race at Monmouth Park and Rockit Man will try a turf race in the 5th race on Thursday. Sage's Dream will race either Friday or Saturday and Spirit of Life will race on Sunday, all at Monmouth!
We now have another Bona connection, naming our latest 2 year-old NY bred colt, Merton's Heart. He is training at Monmouth and will probably run in a few weeks.
Bona Venture Stables will host its first horsemen's weekend outing at Saratoga the weekend of Aug. 11-13. If anyone would like some information on our plans, contact me at: dancollins1951@excite.com.
