Scout.com reporter Mike Sullivan of the High School New York/New Jersey website has the latest recruiting information on lead guard Anthony Nelson, who competed for the Playaz Club of New Jersey this summer ...
The month of July featured some solid moments for Anthony Nelson, a quality lead guard from Plainfield High School in Plainfield, New Jersey. Nelson was part of a Playaz team that captured the Playaz Ball at Basketball City in early July. He had several big baskets in the playoffs to help the Playaz claim the title.
Nelson finished his summer out in Las Vegas with the Playaz. "It was a good summer," he said. "I was working hard on my jumper all summer. I think I improved it."
In early July, Nelson was able to drop down some jumpers during the Playaz Ball. He hit some big three-pointers as well in the playoffs. It's a matter of confidence too with any high school player.
"I want to be more consistent," Nelson said. "I also want to get stronger."
Nelson goes about 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds. He feels he can strengthen his frame and be more of a factor when he takes the ball to the basket against the big bodies that defend the paint area.
But offense is just one area of the game Nelson is trying to make adjustments. "I am working on my defense, my speed in moving side to side," he said. "I want to be as good a defender as I can be."
Anthony already has offers from St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island. He is open in his recruiting process and has also mentioned interest in Seton Hall, George Mason, VCU, St. John's, and Nebraska.
"I don't have any favorites," Nelson said. "I am just starting to learn about
