McCaffrey turns down Razorsharks
Staff and wire reports
(May 27, 2005) — The Rochester Razorsharks are looking for a new head coach after former Duke and Vanderbilt star Billy McCaffrey shocked the American Basketball Association expansion team's management on Thursday by turning down the job.
"We fully expected him to be our coach and to be here for our tryout camp at St. John Fisher (today through Sunday). Now he says he isn't ready to coach professionally," said Razorsharks general manager/COO Orest Hyrwnak.
"He was here for 4 ½ days last week and I thought everything was set. He enjoyed the city and was impressed with our organization. We were lining up an apartment, use of a car, a benefits package and a bonus incentive plan. Now I have to take out my A-list of coaching candidates again. I hope to name our coach within a few weeks."
The invitation-only tryout camp at St. John Fisher will be run by Razorsharks director of player personnel/basketball operations Brendan Rooney. The sessions today and Saturday are closed to the public but fans are invited to Sunday's 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. drills and scrimmage.

This is the second time he's done this now. He left Univ of Maine a month or so after accepting that offer. Very strange.

He must have been a great example and calming voice for a bunch of young kids in a dilemma a few years ago.
