note to all bonnies/loyal supporters of bona's: if you haven't ever been inside st mary's, next time you come to town it's a "must see"...it is absolutely uplifting...side note to 1stdev: while you're waiting to win powerball and erect the new chapel on campus, spend some time in st mary's (i bet you already have and you love it)...

Yes, perhaps the most beautiful church I have ever been in and I have been in a number churches/cathedrals noted for their beauty. St. Mary's comes across to me as almost ethereal, strangely bright even on a dark and dismal day.

Such a beautiful place; so sorry I did not visit the church when at SBU. The timing of this article/posting really made me stop and think considering the tragedy at Notre Dame.

St. Mary's has come a long way. There was a time when there were concerns about upkeep. The famed twin steeples were decaying. Fortunately the community helped out, and the subsequent repairs to the steeples and interior renovations have made the basilica a must-see stop in town.

St. Mary of the Angels was my parish from birth until my graduation from Bona’s. The roof did undergo some major structural upgrading 15 to 25 years ago. Fr. Greg Dobson deserves much credit for the renovations and redecorating over the past 10 years or so and then for petitioning Rome for the minor basilica designation. I think he may have retired by now....a wonderful priest. I have a lot of memories, both happy and sad, from that beautiful basillica. It is definitely worth a visit when you are in Olean.
